Bulgaria

Just done a mammoth tour of Bulgaria. Ive not got under the skin as much as I have this time. It truly is a fantastic country- has the lot. Cheap as owt, fantastic scenery, ruins, urbex, UNESCO at every corner. I skimmed the resorts on the Black sea- not really my bag- but this place is a proper gem if you have the time and inclination to explore

The Russians I saw were just supping from 2L zeppelins of kamenitza ( ar a quid for 2 litres you would be foolish not to) . None were 1988 style 9AM Moscow metro drunk though

Been going skiing there every Christmas and quite like the atmosphere (but not really in the hotels). Would like to explore more of the country.

Sofia is a great little capital - the central bit is walkable pretty much everywhere. There’s a nascent hipster area full of bars and stuff near the cathedral. The main drag is a pedestrianised zone and the small streets to either side are full of bars and cafes .decent hotels are cheap by UK standards and beer is still a quid a go on many places.

My favourite holiday destination at the moment. We've been going 4 years now. I see that you didn't mention the people. I like the Bulgar mentality. They are not as hard-headed as some Slavs and they are easy to talk with.
