brillo pads shortage?

Where have all the brillos gone?

They used to come in packs of ten or so. Now supermarkets only sell really large ones in packs of two - why? If they have any at all. Hardly anywhere that sells cleaning products stocks them.

Is there a national shortage? Pre xmas panic buying? What's going on?

It only dawned on me relatively recently that these are made of plastic and probably extremely bad environmentally. So I have moved on to dishcloths which I find really quite gross, and that wire wool stuff for stubborn stuff, but you can't use that on non stick. How did they wash up before plastic?

Gone back to a brush too, you can turn head round to chip tough bits on pans and keeps hands out of water, skin gets dry easily here in winter, but then the brush needs cleaning.

It's all about the Scrub Daddies apparently now. I went looking for some brillos and could only find these.

I ended up leaving the oven racks overnight on the grass and that did the trick instead.

So I'm still brillo-less

For scourers, I prefer the wire balls you get from Lidl or Aldi and its easy enough to wipe them through some cleaning paste when you need a bit of soap. Easc one lasts several months IME and the metal doesn't go rusty like Brillos can after a use or two.

I still have a few Brillos in a box under the sink I think.

They are metal and rust very easily

I have made lots of reuseable dish cloths out of an old thick scatchy floor towel. I use them once or twice then wash at 60 degrees.

Sadly the population of metal sheep has been decimated due to an outbreak of the rust virus. :(
