Borneo/Indonesia

Hi
I fancy 6 - 8 weeks in Borneo/Indonesia as I'd like to get up highish in the mountains and also go beach + diving/snorkelling over a reef - I have Open Water Cert. On a budget of £1500 might this be possible inc flights? Any tips for getting about/accommodation?

Originally I was going to try Tanzania but I think rainy season is imminent. Hoping to go within a month.

The Malaysian part of Borneo is best set up for visitors. A few friends have been to Kinabalu and loved it, not exactly a massive mountain but great forest (amidst an ocean of oil palm plantation) and great birdwatching. There's good diving round there too.

Driving through Borneo now and blimey it really is:

Miles and miles and miles of monoculture.
