I’ve just finished reading Borstal Girl and I really enjoyed it. The title of the book gives away what the book is about, do you know of any other good books about women being in borstals or prisons?

I was going to say that I've not read it myself, but The Mars Room by Rachel Kushner is meant to be good, but that may be of limited use to the OP now.
I think there were two or three Girls Borstals at the most. The expansion of secure units in the late 1970s/ early 80s and the establishment of Detention Centres ended the Borstals system . There were some children’s homes that had time limited isolation units and more girls would be in that environment, there were also a number of girls only community homes ( polite names for battery farming type care) .
There was a film or programme called Scrubbers that I vaguely remember , think that was set in a Girls Borstal
