Unless you are from Arizona, or play in some kind of folk/bluegrass band there is no way to wear one of these without looking like a serial killer with a naff 80s dress sense.

I don't think its a look young men can pull off. The only place you really see them is the funerals of old cowboys. You have to look like you've herded cattle as a young man and then gone to seed. Even young cowboys I've seen don't try to wear them. They stick to seed caps, flannel shirts, and boots. As they get older they assume the mantle of a hat and string tie. Although young cowboys can usually pull off double denim.

Over hear you do get older blokes that are in to certain kinds of music (not country ) or a certain scene that wear them and have nothing to do with cattle

I reckon Lucas Buck in American Gothic could probably get away with one of those bolo ties, OTOHO can't find and image of him wearing one (out of uniform, that is) so he probably never did in that series.
