Black Panther

The point is, why bother dressing up a shot with a London ambulance and fake UK car registration plates on vehicles only to shoot it on a street scene which looks so obviously un-British.
Often the schedule doesn't always allow to shoot on location, so they'll use a substitute. Also, shooting in London, New York and some other major cities is expensive and to save some money they shoot some of it elsewhere. Canadian cities often stand in for London and NYC, because they have tax incentives and other perks, which make location shoots a lot cheaper.

Exactly. It looks London enough, while shipping out a whole film crew and equipment just to shoot a few exteriors would be nutzoid expensive and time-consuming.

Looking at it from the other direction, I'm pretty sure you've been fooled into thinking one city is another because you're not as familiar with those cities as you are with London. To people who don't regularly use Brixton station, a station with a Brixton sign is generally enough to keep the story moving.

The Marvel movies have the budgets to go on location and most of the exteriors which take place in famous locations are shot there. But these type of films always budget for re-shoots so when it becomes clear during the editing that the film needs a shot or scene here and there as connecting tissue they can do that. That's when they don't bother to send a crew to London or wherever.

I tried to watch the alternate universe science fiction spy series Counterpart, mainly because it was set in Berlin where I now live. Rather disappointingly, apart from a few establishing shots, hardly only of it was shot in Berlin and it was really obvious too. If a film or TV series makes a point of taking place in a particular place one of the pleasures of film or TV is to take you there and if you know the city, recognising locations. I’m not bothered by the odd substitute here and there but I hate it when it’s obvious that almost nothing was shot at the location where it’s supposed to be taking place.

Very sad news, I guess he had the privilege in his short life of leading in a film that really changed the thinking about what a 'black' movie could achieve in the mainstream box office

got diagnosed the same years as he first played the character in the movie
must of been a weird ride dealing with the cancer treatment whilst his stock was raising

far to young and he worked almost right to the end

RIP Fella

What a terrible thing- after years the millions of black comic book fans have a proper black hero on screen and he goes and dies

What's the status of the sequel to Black Panther?

Was thinking maybe it should be left alone for a bit, like a bit of respect ... but then, the studios don't, do they? CGI resurrections, like Star Wars, The Crow, Gladiator... or spare footage cobbled together like the first Pink Panther film after Sellars death.

It was in the process of being written, but there are five MCU films ahead of it, which are in more advanced stages of production. Everything is being held up by the pandemic anyway. If they go ahead with another Black Panther film then it's unlikely that they will recast the role, the obvious way to go is to make an already existing character the lead. The Wakandan characters all are potential superheroes. In the comics T'Challa's sister Shuri becomes the Black Panther at some point, so that's one way to go. They also could scrap the sequel as not much has been invested in it so far and instead have other characters from Black Panther/Wakanda appear in other MCU films.

Yes, I don't see any reason to recast it or do a CGI resurrection. It seems disrespectful to do that. And they do have more than enough characters that could support an entire film. I wouldn't mind seeing Shuri cast as the lead.

I would assume, based on nothing other than it being sensible, that Boseman told a select few at Marvel and they've been making some plans in case he couldn't make the sequel, hopefully with his involvement/blessing.

And bloody brilliant to see dark-skinned women featured gloriously
I never go to the cinema so didn't watch this at the time, but purely because he died, we watched it on Amazon, and this was one of the big enjoyments I drew from it too.

I surprised myself by loving this film - I usually hate superhero stuff, but this was clearly different. I even loved the fight scenes, they seemed to be much more original than anything I'd seen before. It is a real bloody shame he died so young though.

Doesn’t sound like it. Probably because it would almost definitely be leaked, far too many people would have to be involved.

rewatched BP last night and it really is an excellent film with a superb performance from Boseman.

Have the producers said something? Haven't really been following.

You wouldn't need to tell an entire crew, just the one or two people (e.g. Feige and Coogler) who have overall responsibility, just so they have some time to come up with some alternatives to pivot to should they need to. If that then happens, they're the people who tell everyone else what to do, and so they're the people you want to have a plan.

Of course, there's no reason those two are inherently trustworthy, maybe one of them is infamously bad at keeping secrets. Ach, to be honest, not much point in speculating, what will be will be at this stage.

It was all over the entertainment news and these things are easily googled. Ryan Coogler says he didn’t know. I also think it was Boseman‘s right to deal with this as he saw fit and to only tell his family.

Some more news confirming that nobody involved in the production of the MCU films was aware of Boseman battling cancer. He's been fighting the disease for four years and apparently till a week before his death was convinced he would beat it. Suddenly he got much worse and died soon after.

they would never of been able to produce the movies with him as the star

he was doing his own stunts during Black Panther who the hell is going to insure someone with stage 3 cancer to do stunt work

most respect to the fella for being able to do that crazy strong
