Big Fire in Camberwell Station Road (6th Jan)

Can anyone else see it? It looks like it's on the Hill, but probably further down. Hard to tell where it is exactly, but it's big

Fifteen fire engines, four aerial appliances and around 75 firefighters are tackling a blaze in a building under construction on Camberwell Station Road in Camberwell.

A substantial part of the building of around three storeys, is alight.

The Brigade was called at 0228. Crews from Peckham and a number of other surrounding fire stations are at the scene.

Around 100 people have been evacuated from adjacent premises as a precaution.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.

Blimey, someone should stop building all those new buildings in Camberwell out of tinder or something. What's that, like the 3rd big fire in that area recently?

Yes it looks very dodgy; foul play may be a factor - especially as it happened on a snowy night following days of rain and other bad weather and so would have required quite a big effort to get the fire started

I live about 100 metres away from Station Road just outside the evacuation area - I am very pleased that we werent woken at 2am and told to go to a local hall for shelter!

if i remember right ,green acre build timber frame ultra cheap unit, affordable social housing for housing associations.
this type of building is a significant fire risk until the fireproof int and ext clading is applied and greenacre have been in trouble for not have fire alrms prescent on other sites.
if anyones bored or time on their hands and has been affected by the fire smoke damage etc,take out a small claims action ,up to 3500 i think,you dont have to employ a solicitor and its quite informal and some big company dont even bother to turn up and you get a judgement in your favour.
