Big Box of Cables

Some of it is interesting. I found an old cisco voip phone I was going to set up in the past. Might try to again.

I also just found a power cable I can use for a speaker system I have in storage.

oh wow ..... I have a collection like that! I mean, I had a collection like that ..... a month after I threw it all away (moving house / country) I found I needed a particular cable .....

I find it hard to throw away stuff like that ..... I might need it ..... lol ... still , you can get anything on eBay / Amazon so I replaced missing vintage cable for 2.99 !!

There were a couple of old phones in my box that I kept just as souvenirs to show granddaughter when she is older

PS anyone got any suggestions for use of old Kindles / tablets? Saw online an idea to convert one to a weather forecast screen and stick it on the fridge, but it looked complicated .....

I have a "big box of cables" and I'm trying to decide what gets the bin and what stays. The box has been in storage for getting on about 15 years and wasn't so up to date when I stored it.

I don't think I'll ever need a scart to composite adapter but how can I be sure....

I wish I had so few
I'll try to get some pictures later, but I think it's time I had a cull.

Charity shop, if they still work.

A scart to composite adapter seen in the wild, today - TV with no aux/headphone socket connected to an amp.

When I set it all up in the kitchen, did I have to buy an old adapter off ebay? No, I went in the Drawer of Miscellany and found one not used since a PlayStation 2 in about 2003

I did this last week. Storage last inspected 2006

Go through for personal stuff (hint not electrical wires) and any identifiable stuff (old payslips, bank statements) burn shred paperwork

Skip everything else or split into charity and skip

I think I need a scart to comp for my nintendos and blue ps1.
I was definitely short of some stuff last time I I tried to set something up.

Oh. Maybe it is an issue that no TVs have scarts anymore.

If you're not currently using it, and you can afford a telly that's less than 10 years old (and you're not nerdy enough for "retro-gaming" like ATOMIC SUPLEX ), we can fairly assume you can bin it. Most new tellys have neither. There are some elderly adapters you could still argue a use for, but I don't think that's one of them

I should add that I do have a box of old cables and adaptors, but it's about 1/4 the size of that and the most elderly thing is USB-A to USB-Mini because we have some bike lights that charge off it.

This is the end result of a considerable downsizing a few years ago. I can now confidently self-identify as a grownup.

Clockwise: Power, data/speaker/guitar, USB, AV/HDMI.

I could probably bin some more, but it would be painful. I have actually found random power bricks useful for hobby projects, and if I ever need to get data off ancient hard drives I need my enclosures to run. I have pledged not to overflow these though. One in, one out.

I got the Wii back out a couple of weeks ago and discovered that its power adapter and the analogue input dongle for the TV had been victims of the purge :( Had to get new ones.

I have my old Sega master system II in a box somewhere. Should check what I need for that.
Maybe I could get my BBC master going again too.

On my list of things to do. My main motivation is that I'm hoping I will find the lead to the record player.
