Beating newspaper paywalls

Would people like to share the best ways of beating paywalls? Especially the Times one, which I can't find a way around.

I've just discovered how to bypass the FT one. You install this Chrome add-on https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/user-agent-switcher-for-c/djflhoibgkdhkhhcedjiklpkjnoahfm, then you select Googlebot as your user agent. I think this works for many other paywalls, including the Economist. It makes Chrome behave differently, but it only takes a second to switch back to the default user agent when you have finished reading the FT or whatever.

When there's something you want to read in the "Times", IF you can wait a day for it, you can read it via Proquest if your local public library service subscribes to it. I mean, if your library service does, then you just sign with your library ticket number at home or wherever - not traipse around to find a library that's open.

Yeah, just checked this - articles from 25th February available now. (I had to remind myself what today's date was)

Obviously this is no good if you urgently want the "Times" on morning of publication, but it's something.

I've just given up on news sites that have paywalls. Unliked on social media, and always click "not interested in stories from..." if they get recommended in the android news stories bit or by a Facebook ad. Ideally, I think they should stop coming up in search results, as well.

What are we using these days for jumping over paywalls?

Tried a couple of those above with no luck on The Times.

yes, they have Chrome version over on GitHub - can't access The Times with it (haven't tried anything else)

Will have a look at FF, Ta

Just realised this thread is still going, and it still has answers. Wahey! Reading all about Philip Green's failings in The Times.
