Both have thousands of songs, and many hundreds of classic songs to their name, but if you had to choose which 3 chords have the best to their names, which would you choose?

CFG just pips it for me.

Depends on my mood....

my fingers just seem to naturally go into the GDA sequence tho
Thats what I was thinking.:hmm:
Unless your using bar chords, then CFG may be more instinctive?
However same could be said fir GDA.

Most Dylan stuff is GDA, as is Creedance Clearwater.

Not sure of how many well known bands base all their stuff around CFG, certainly lots of music in my collection seems to be.

While I understand the principles (sort of :hmm: ) I can only wish I was musically inclined enough to have a preference :(

Which one's Pachelbel's Canon :p

GDA has a far more uplifting feel to it. If I'm in a good mood thats where I'll go.

CFG - melancholy. Thoughtful.

I think if you are playing basic chords then GDA is more likely to be your instinctive sequence, possibly using accoustic and orwide necked instrument.

If you are playing electric and/or thin necked instrument possibly being a lot easier to play bar chords you will go for this choice.

Many popular songs have this Riff.
I am not a musician so perhaps not the best person on this subject!

cfg ftw it's so lazy; it's easy to play around with.

I'm only a beginner and thought I had made up a fine little ditty of odd chords. I looked up what I was playing at is was basically CFG but with a few sus 4's and other bits tagged on. There is no escape!

Generally I actually use Cmaj7 Fmaj7 G. Think I've done three songs that use that as a basis of either verse or chorus.

Can't do bar chords and can't do F (especially not on my 12string) plus, bad moon rising is not CFG is it now:cool:

CFG is a 1, 4, 5 progression, IE the same as is in all 12 bar blues, so, like 70-90% of all post-war western popular music?

yeah, but so's DGA, and EAB, and ADE, all of which are better than CFG unless you're sat at a piano and aren't afraid to stick some Aminors, sus4s and 7s in there

Alternatively, fuck chords altogether and go pentatonic

It could be. I've got a tab of it as CFG for a mate who's just started learning and who is concentrating on getting used to moving between those three chords.

F isn't too bad if you don't play all the way across the strings. Doesn't have to be a barre chord.
