Hypothetically, if you saw a cultural figure wearing something you really really wanted for yourself and couldn't find, would you contemplate emailing them?

Really don't want to, just want to know about this item. They're not super-famous, so probably fairly approachable

I think we need to know more.:D What is it and who was wearing it? Pics would be good.

If it's a sleb you could ask Heat magazine.

or Yvette Fielding.
If it is a celeb then they won't be able to wear it again anyway so they might give it to you.

Yes. But I don't think I'd ever want an item so much that that would happen.

I don't think I would. Chances are I wouldn't be able to afford it, even if I knew what it was. You can usually find cheaper high street versions of the clothes they wear anyway.

It's not bloody Barbra Streisand or anything :D

I asked a girl at a Morrissey gig where her handbag was from, she bought it in fucking Belgium. I was thinking shit, where do I go with this conversation now, I can't just say 'ooh I'll have a look ta' so I just pegged it.

Is 'pegged' slang for stole? :p

I did the same thing with boots: was hankering after the perfect pair of flat, black knee length boots for ages, at least two years, kept seeing women everywhere I went wearing ones I liked but fuck all in the shops. Eventually I plucked up the courage to approach a particularly tasty pair of boots and asked their owner where she got them from. "Paris" she replied. I was gutted :(

God, I bet she felt fantastic saying that. Worth going to paris for, I reckon :)

Sorry, that's funny in guy world.

Maybe you could have said 'What was the store name, I'll have a look on the Internet?'

yeah, why not? i've had other blokes ask me where i got things i'm wearing when i've been out and about, it's not really any different to that. they'll probably be flattered.

I always used to make this stuff up if people asked - even if it was a tshirt from Top Man, I'd claim I'd picked it up in Louisville

...because they want to avoid visiting the charity shop you bought your piss-scented ensemble from. :p
