I saw a great presentation on the use of textures to enhance photographs, especially portraits.
You can photograph your own textures and build up libraries of them.
Then if you have an uninspiring background in a portrait you can replace it with one or more textures.
The presenter demonstrated multiple examples making images with cluttered backgrounds into images that looked like they had classic professional backgrounds, like old masters, very impressive work.
Much using layers in PS, masks, blend modes, painting with various brushes including home made brushes.
Anyone had a play with such things? I am definitely going to give it a go.
