Anyone know a good place to stay a night in Mallaig?

Hi, yet another tourism-advice thread from a southerner to you Scottish urbs...me + partner + 2 year-old need a b&b for a night in Mallaig in mid-September (getting a ferry the next morning).

Cheap and cheerful suits us best - I've just been online and feeling a bit oppressed by all the photos of stuffy and fussy b&b rooms, we'll be slightly scruffy as usual and - ideally - there'd be somewhere slightly alternative or eco-conscious that we could give our money to rather than the usual kind of thing.

Also - we're travelling on public transport so central location near port and station is a bit key.

Any advice gratefully received!

Hope you found somewhere ok. Couldn't help as I don't go to the west coast unless I have to.

:mad::mad::mad::mad: she's just jealous!:D

actually I can't help you either cos I live on Skye - but one thing I do know, there's a ridiculous amount of over priced B & B's, that think they're the Hilton or summat.

find the cheapest on t'Internet and go from there.

How did you get on? Mallaig is tiny. Plenty of choice of accommodation here, from £13.50 to an average of £25 per person per night.

These places mostly seem to have soft carpets, fresh bedlinen, and comfy beds, with a hot shower and a big and tasty breakfast when you get up in the morning. How is that oppressive? :) It's the way most of us live, and if you feel stuffy you can open the window. I think it's nice to get out of the cold and wind and rain and spend the night somewhere clean and cosy.
