Anybody been to Croatia?

Obviously people have, but we are going to the lakes in the National park, just wondering if anyone knows of anything else of interest, or has any warnings of things to avoid?
Never been to this part of the world, so curious, the Croatian tourist board seems a bit coy?

I've been to Zagreb.... Loved it.

I'd like to hear what you think of the coast when you get back. My grandad was in the merchant navy and always said that coastline was the most beautiful one he'd seen.

I know the islands, Brac and Stari Grad off Split, better. Have been twice, once when it was still Yugolavia, and once now it's Croatia. Nice part of the world. Just don't mention Hrvatsko je ustalo! Never goes down well.

I nearly go to Croatia almost every year and have never got as far as booking it. Something else always looks better.

Went to the Plitvice Lakes National Parks many years ago around Christmas time when the lakes were all frozen. There was hardly anyone there. It was very peaceful and calm and beautiful.

Has anyone visited Lopud, 30kms northwest of Dubrovnik? If so, what's it like? I'm looking for somewhere off the beaten track, quiet, hot with a bit of restaurant action at night and plenty of calm sea swimming in the day, plus day trips. Really want to go to those lakes so might try for a day trip from here. Don't think I want to hoof around too much. Am there for about 10 days mid August.

We went there on a day trip from Dubrovnik in 2008. It's very, very quiet and did have a lovely beach IIRC. Like I say it was only a day trip so we didn't find out if there was restaurant action at night.

Plitvice is stunning, but you have to walk around on raised boardwalks because of landmines... or at least you still did when I was there about ten years ago.
