anti knife crime charity outside Brixton station-are they legit? (never have time to speak to them)

hi wondering if anyones chatted to the lads wearing blue raising money / awareness against knife crime outside brixton station?

is it a local charity? or what?

i don't know! i am always in a rush and havent looked at their jackets properly....they're called something CIC...and they wear blue raincoats with a logo which is like a knife with in a circle with a diagonal line going across it...they're there a lot...

I think CIC stands for community interest company or similar, so it might be legit. No idea about the group you mention - it must have been twenty years since I visited Brixton.

eta - this comes up top of the list after searching for Brixton knife crime community interest company - annoying the site doesn't have any sub pages at all, but the search description is below.

I'll see if I can catch the name of the organisation the next time I'm passing through.

They're the Inside Success Union. They've only managed a 3.5 rating on Google but that doesn't mean anything if they're doing a good job (I haven't looked them up).

Have to say they're a bit persistent if you're waiting by the tube.

Agreed. Walking past the tube one of these blue jackets usually spots me from some distance off, eyes light up and makes a beeline to the area ill be walking through, i'll swerve the first and a second then pounces. Maybe i look like the type who is a good bet might sign up/donate. Its a bit irritating but i do sympathise with the young people who for this is presumably a job.

I looked a bit deeper.

This seems to a common theme amongst the poor reviews (and, if true, might explain their persistence):

Gives the misleading impression it is a charity but basically is a business that makes its money through "donations" sought by street sellers.
My cousin got offered a job here.
No contract and no job confirmation.
It's a sales job to get people to donate £40 to them.
Anything above this They was told they could keep it!
But how's that possible? To keep people's donations!
Their sales pitch was to keep kids off the street with no weapons. Every £40 was to sponsor one child off the street. How's this possible? If you are giving everyone the donation money?
What a load of scammers!!! If they didn't receive donations they wouldn't get paid the donation money!
That's so bad!
Will be reporting these to trading standards!
Do not work for this fraudulent company.
My 16 year old sister and her friend worked for this company. Who promised if they can take £40 of cash from customers to sponsor then they can keep what ever sponsors are above the £40.
However they if they do not hit £40 they would not receive anything for the hours they do.
They wear asked to work from 11am to 5pm.
None of them hit £40 and was not paid for the days they worked.
They are scammers!!! Do not come and work for an illegal company. There is no hourly rate.
Do not accept this kind of work.

Doesnt sound good. Taking advantage of young unemployed adults to pester people for money that is dubiously charitable, often without pay, shouldn't be the way of doing these things.

Its particularly distasteful doing this scam under the guise of anti knife crime in an area with a long history of the problem.

Not the same charity I don't think, but I briefly volunteered for a similar organisation in 2019, one day a week. It's a good cause but unfortunately the boss expected me to spend all my time doing it even though I'd explained to him I had work (busking) and other things to do (his logic was "Well, you're your own boss, you can take time off when you choose!", missing the point that I still needed to do some busking to, you know, bring money in so I could eat and stuff). He also said he'd pay me a wage after 2 months, which he reneged on. Always timely with reimbursing my travel, though.

Similar group in Cardiff
When I said to someone they'd cornered to check if they were a legit charity they got a bit agitated and started waving a bit of paper around as proof

Dunno if the same but...
Fairly aggressive Chuggers right outside the tube this afternoon,

Stopped by one when leaving the station. As I was laden with Christmas tat, I said no thanks politely and moved to go round - but he kept getting in my way,

When I clocked it was to do with knife crime, I said something along the lines of "ah the knife people. I think I've heard something about you lot" (obviously a half remembrance of this thread), I was definitely polite and definitely didn't swear.

His response was to call me a "fucking dicker", which I assume is a special insult currently in favour with the youth of today.
Told him that that wasn't going to help his cause and left.

Still not sure if it was a scam or a legit charity, but either way, their agents aren't doing them any favours and I suspect my first reaction was the correct one.

Blue and white ski type jacket with an "AS" logo. About 18, white and upwards of 6ft, FYI. Vibes of a someone doing a student job, rather than anyone directly involved in charity work

Do you live in 1970's Belfast?

??

Is fucking dicker a real insult ?

Never knew that. Just thought he had had a brain freeze and (hopefully) has been suffering ever since from an acute case of l'esprit d'escalier
