American products

R.I.P.
I want to boycott American products or anything for that matter that comes from America so long as Trump is in the White House.
My problem is that I'm not sure just what does come from America apart from Apple, Walmart, Macdonalds Kraft GM and Ford.
What's the obvious stuff that I'm missing?
I'm going to have to change my cosmetics brands next time I shop for them :(

During the Bush regime, I tried to do that - obvious stuff like Coke, fast food outlets and so on. But there's so much good stuff in arts & entertainment that comes out of the US, I failed in that respect. I like to think that the American artists I like are or woldn't have been in favour of the current incumbent...

I guess you could extend your ban to computers/software/facebook/google/amazon etc

I can see it's going to be difficult. Facebook for instance is something I rely on for selling my jewellery and staying in touch with friends. I may have to introduce selective exceptions
oneflewover I already use as little electricity as possible because of all the trainloads of coal from china going into Drax every day of the year.
krtek a houby I'm pretty sure that the american bands/artists that I'd pay to go and see will all be anti Trump so I'm allowing them :)
I can see it'll be the the internet that scuppers me :(

Four years? I really hope he won't last four months let alone four long years

Anyway, I'm not cut out for cave dwelling, he'd better be gone sharpish

Just think of the lovely solitude you'd have living in a cave, like a modern-day Yorkshire hermit. It would be lovely and peaceful, and you could have a flock of sheep outside to provide wool for clothing, milk them for diary products and then slaughter them for meat.

The second most amazing sentiment right after #1, becoming nostalgic for George W Bush, is that Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg is quite possibly the most obvious progressive hope for the country.

That's lovely picture you're conjuring up there barleybabes, do you want to join me? :D

I thought about this but, as others have suggested, realised it might be almost impossible. So now I'm thinking of trying to switch as much of my rampant consumerism to products from nations that might suffer economically due to America's current policies.

Like, y'know, Mexico ;)

That's were all the American companies are based .

She'd need to stop using google and Facebook as well .

It looks like my idea wasn't that well thought out :( The bloody Americans are everywhere.

The American owned foodstuff on the list that farmerbarleymow put up are things I don't buy anyway, I also haven't used Asda for years, never eat Macdonalds. I sometimes drink Diet Coke but not daily or even monthly so I'll stop but there'll be no sense of cutting anything out there :(
I'm not going to stop using google or facebook so it looks like I've failed before I've started :(

One problem with cutting out Coca Cola is that it's often made in "local" places. There's a factory in Seville, for example. It's quite possible that boycotting it is going to damage the local economy more than the US.

See what I mean, failed before I started :(

Shit like this is always complicated. It also occurred to me that by boycotting American you also boycott a lot of people caught up in the mess and who also want nothing to do with Trump, the administration and their policies. I suppose that's true of most boycotss, though.

It's maybe not possible to boycott everything American (I'm going to NYC this time next week so that'd be fucking tricky! ) but if we're a bit more conscious about our buying and consuming habits we can still do something, however small. And by spreading the ideas and knowledge we can get others to do similar. Y'know, organising :)

Just don't ask me out to go about it

You should also think about boycotting goods from these companies; Remington, Smith & Wesson, Maverick Arms, Glock (the products that are assembled in the USA), Beemiller Inc, While Saelio, Sig Sauer, O.F. Mossberg & Sons,Savage, and Springfield Armory
