Can anyone give me a link to a site that caters for the novice gardener. Of late I have been out in the garden. It was a jungle a couple of weeks ago, though now its approaching normality. I'm starting to get a little proud of the work me and my landlord have done and would like to plant something nice in the garden. The grass is very 'weedy' (pardon me, I have no scientific terms to refer to) and the rear of the garden.. well the less said the better.
I want to be able to turn a good size 'jungle' into a thing of beauty, and therefore need a good site\forum in which to do so. I would also like to learn something along the way. Thanking you all in advance.

hiya :)

there are loads of sites, 2 forums I use are www.gardenerscorner.co.uk and www.allotments-uk.com

although tbh you learn more chatting to your friendly person in nurseries and garden centres :)

grass is fairly easy to sort out unless you want bowling competition quality so don't worry about that

what is really useful and something I'm doing at the moment, is map out (roughly) where the sun gets to throughout the day around your garden, this means you know where is partial/full sun, shadey and damp etc so you can plant accordingly :)

and work out what you want to do with your garden - do you have kids? do you like eating out? having outside get togethers (or yard pissups in my case :D) etc and then work out what kind of garden you need

just my tw'penneth :)

I've just started cultivating begonias in me window sills and i'm loving it! the plants are still gorwing and are an absolute joy to watch.
none have died so far which is a bonus.

thank you rennie and aqua, I do want a sort of drinking\barbeque garden though with plenty of flowers. It isn't my home, but I'm bored sitting at home and have taken it up as a hobby. Who knows, one day I might be able to afford my own home.

The bbc website has a great garden bit with a how to do stuff section too. you could water in a bit of weed and feed grass fertiliser on the lawn to help that, and stick some annual plants in for instant colour now. I like to buy perennial plants as they come up on their own every year and need just a bit of trimming and tidying a couple of times. I have shrubs that are evergreen or flowers at some point for easiness all year too. www.crocus .co.uk has a good search feature so you can see which plants are good for shade etc too.
