Alfredo Bonanno's tension is over

hitmouse

so defeated, thinks it's funny
I thought I'd never really read anything by him, then realised that he wrote Anarchist Tension, which I've always thought is quite good. Also I swear I once saw a thread on here with BA claiming he was dull company to share a police cell with, but have never found that again either. Anyway, RIP to a real one and so on.

So, when these gentlemen say, ‘You are utopians, you anarchists are dreamers, your utopia would never work’, we must reply, ‘Yes, it’s true, anarchism is a tension, not a realisation, not a concrete attempt to bring about anarchy tomorrow morning’. But we must also be able to say but you, distinguished democratic gentlemen in government that regulate our lives, that think you can get into our heads, our brains, that govern us through the opinions that you form daily in your newspapers, in the universities, schools, etc., what have you gentlemen accomplished? A world worth living in?

Gah butchersapron has got to come back just to confirm or deny this

Anyway RIP

In 2009 he was picked up as the getaway driver in a robbery, aged 72, which might be the one you're thinking of, but he got up to a fair bit other than that: Bonanno arrested in Greece on suspicion of involvement in armed bank robbery

It's probably worth noting there is a Bonanno crime family, which is one of the original five New York Mafia families, but they're not related afaik.
And also a psychology professor called Bonanno who writes on trauma and resilience, which is a set-up to make some jokes that go over really well if you know people who are really into contemporary therapeutic practice and have at least some familiarity with insurrectionary anarchism, but don't quite work outside of that very specific section of the venn diagram.

That's me that is. (Sort of - I'm a trauma specialist with a passing interest in insurrection, anarchistic or not).

So go on then, try me ;)

Anarchist bookfair, anarchist bookfair, anarchist bookfair.

They fucking invented networking didn't they?

Bookfairs are not intended to replace external political activism or fight capitalism, but serve as a space for anarchist activists to build networks and experience social togetherness

I preferred it when it was more bomb-making.

Is there an anarchist LinkedIn?

Does Armed Willingness do anything for you, or is that a "you had to be there" one?

Only just seen this thread. 86 is a good innings and he lived his life to the full and did what he wanted to do (and put his neck on the line), leaving behind some good writings aswell. Rest in power ✊
