Aftersun film

I watched a film called Aftersun (2022) last night from BBC Films on the lovely
I player its about a young girl and her dad going on holiday in Turkey I suffered
the whole film, to conclude it was possibly the worst film I have seen in my whole life
that is going sum. The next day I decided to look it up on the rotten tomatoes and others
to my horror, it was the Guardian Film of the year it was ratted 69 % on rotten tomatoes
has anyone else seen the film am I missing something?

Really impressive for a first film. Can’t wait to see what she does next

Aftersun

I saw this a couple of days ago and have been thinking about it lots since. I really don't think I've ever had such an emotional response to a film. I consider it a masterpiece. Has anyone else seen it? Best to spoiler if discussing details. It looks quite difficult to see, which is a shame

I saw it at the cinema and really liked it.

What it does quite well is capture the memory of her dad's mental health crisis through inference without it being the main focus of the plot. You see how the dad tries to hide it from her and how she can only see the signs in retrospect. I found it very clever and very sad.

To be fair it is a rather slow movie. I suspect if I'd watched it at home I'd have lost interest or got distracted, but watching it in the cinema you are forced to pay attention. I'm glad I saw it in the cinema though because I picked up on a lot of subtleties I would have probably missed if I was streaming it from home.
