A wonderful but heartbreaking collection.

I came across one a while ago in somewhere quite out of the way, derelict but still with wooden canopies. Further research found that the line closed in the 50s, though part of the yard was in use as a depot. I want to return one day to photograph it, though struggling to find it on a map. So rare to see them in that state these days, most either flattened or converted to housing. When I was younger (70s/80s) you'd quite often see fairly intact ones out in the countryside, with only the track absent.

I wish I'd taken more pics. I always wanted to buy this station.

That's Ballater Station and its actually doing quite well. The railway may be long gone but it was never fully abandoned. Its been restored/renovated and now houses several local businesses and a former Royal coach.

I might be out there in the next few days, so I'll try and get a pic from the same angle

Old stations have always fascinated me, would love to live in one. Although a mate of mine does live in a converted railway carriage

A friend lived in this one for many years:

An artist/silversmith, the waiting room was his studio - a magical place to youngster like me. :D

In fact I think he took it over from BR 3-5 years after the line closed and only sold-up and moved to Perthshire around ten years ago.

I remember at times it was more of a derelict site than some of the others on that page - houseproud was something he was most certainly not!

Another long-derelict station on the same line near me has recently been renovated into a couple of very up-market houses:

This one fair brings a tear to my eye.

Cloy Halt Great Western Railway, Cambrian line between Overton - Bangor-on-Dee - remains of halt after line closure and lifting. [--]

As late as the end of the 50s the railways were allowed to dream of a golden future - a dream that didn't last long
Sorry but got to sneak this in

Bizarre that when he describes diesel traction first the vid of LNER 15K DC and when we finally get to a diesel built by BR, no mention of the fact that its German design built here under license - dont recall a Warship with that name either!!!
