5-11 year old travel fares

melting like a toastie
I now have a five year old who will only be travelling with an adult. Do they need a zip oyster?

I know it's fine on rail and bus but was under the impression (from reading the tfl site) that they need a zip for tube. What about DLR? So then I looked at visitlondon and it says even tube is fine with an adult.

Someone is wrong and it could well be my reading comprehension.

Help me please.

No - they will only need a zip Oyster if travelling without an adult.
Obviously a five year old won't be...
Free travel on DLR and Overground - again no Zip card needed.
Just remember to enter /exit through large barriers (ones for luggage etc!)

Yeah - did see that.
If it eases your mind then best to apply for card.
But staff do not check on young children's tickets when accompanied by an adult.
Family members of mine with kids under 11 do not carry these zip cards.
But TFL is obviously the information site to follow.
There is conflicting information on other sites...

I'll try without  until I can get a zip sorted
