2023/24 Fixtures (still to come..)

Hoping for non stupid midweek away matches this time (Bath last season springs to mind) - should be some good sunny seaside trips in there if we get lucky.

Think it’s just the National League today.

As Pink Panther mentioned there’s no set date for the Isthmian League fixtures to be released as yet, but I did see a team in the Southern League say they were expecting the release of their fixtures around 15th July - so our fixtures may well be released at a similar time.

Ah shame, I thought they announced them round the same time in previous years. Apologies. I'll edit the title!

Steps 3/4 always come after Steps 1/2 due to need to align groundshare issues, as higher placed team has priority.

If anyone fancies an easy enough hop to a nice place to see what Hashtag are like, they play at Farnham Town on Saturday.

Farnham have built a side way too good, on paper, for the CoCo. With it being their first home friendly I expect them to take it seriously. The FTFC owner is a youngster who made a few hundred million selling an internet based company - he grew up in Farnham. I strongly suspect he's friendly with those behind the scenes at Hashtag, so expect them to take it seriously too.

Both sides do a lot on You Tube etc. so expect to see lots of cameras. I have heard some internet stars are expected to turn up. Unusually I've actually heard of one of them but had to ask my step son who the rest were. Stress rumours though.

Can someone who has the fixtures just tweet a picture of them or something? It's been 25 minutes since they were "announced" and they're not online

Alex Teniola to score the winner on the opening day of Dulwich tradition is to be maintained.

Cray at home on the last day of the season is looking unattractive as well!

Otherwise, I think the first five games are a pretty good run.

Whitehawk late Oct, Lewes in December and Margate in Feb. Fuck off.
And Hastings in early January. Whitehawk during British Summer Time (just) is alright. Lewes could end up in midweek, as that's an FA Trophy date. Our last three league trips to Margate were all in January, one of them midweek, so that's a marginal improvement.

Games at risk of postponement due to FA Cup ties are Hornchurch (A) 2Q, Cheshunt (A) 3Q, Kingstonian (H) 4Q, Haringey (A) 1st Round, while the home games with Potters Bar and Folkestone potentially clash with FA Trophy ties.

Chatham on New Year's Day not ideal either. I'd rather have had somewhere boring on an Oystercard. There are some strange Boxing Day fixtures with Chatham and Margate both travelling to London to play Cray and Kingstonian, who surely ought to be playing each other. Yet again we're at home on Boxing Day, which is always useful with the lack of trains.

We've only lost twice on the opening day in the last 17 years, and never in the Isthmian League since 2005, so if tradition is maintained we'll get at least a point.

There was a very atmospheric midweek in Lewes a few years back I seem to remember. Crisp winter evening, mist rolling in off the hills. Or the sea. One of them. Anyway, was very nice.

Last time I was down there for a womens game at May bank holiday weekend I went to the Beak taproom. Was disappointed as they’d sold out of anything that wasn’t a 7% IPA and also it wasn’t really the easiest to combine with the ground. Part of hoping for a weekend trip there is to have a second crack at the place.

I'll settle for Lewes at any time of the year on any day, just as long as we get a result. We've lost on all 6 previous league visits, including two seasons when Lewes were relegated.

It'll be looking unattractive for them if they need a result and we're in the mix too. Their squad is packed with players who failed to punch their weight in our colours. Hayden Bird must be gutted he missed out on signing them all for Leatherhead, so as long as we get our own team right there's nothing to fear there. If we haven't got enough points from the first 41 matches it's irrelevant anyway.

Might be quite hostile for some of them - Steve Deltasix will be waiting for George Porter in particular ;)! As long as I can get to games after work, remember getting to Euston in the pouring rain when it was already half time at Wingate and Finchley last season...though maybe I didn't miss out.

Couple of mad dashes for the last train at the Dripping Pan stick in the mind to a degree. I forget the exact years but one was an FA Cup tie in the qualifying rounds that we won 3-1 on penalties after a 0-0 draw. I’m sure the referee was one of consistently annoying ones that seemed to crop much more often than others - probably either Valentino or Nemering-Knowle (spellcheck please). The other was George Elokobi’s only first team appearance when the team coach was delayed on the way down and the kickoff was delayed by more than an hour.

The FA Cup win was the 2000/01 relegation season. Les Cleevely saved three kicks in the shoot out. We'd also successfully persuaded the referee to delay the kick off for that match, much to Lewes"s annoyance, because Les had been held up on the way. I think Nemerin-Noel was the referee in question, definitely one of the more erratic arbiters of that era. The first time we encountered him he seemed to give everything against us, but subsequent matches revealed him to be equally capable of turning the game in our favour.

The George Elokobi match was autumn 2003.

Quite an easy midweek venue to get home from by train under normal circumstances.

I don’t think we persuaded the referee in the traditional way of asking him. I believe Dave Garland pulled the goal netting from its pegs to ensure it needed a little remedial work. Les then appeared as they were pegging it back
