And August can be shit but let's play the percentages here.Late october can be quite a nice time of year tbf
And Hastings in early January. Whitehawk during British Summer Time (just) is alright. Lewes could end up in midweek, as that's an FA Trophy date. Our last three league trips to Margate were all in January, one of them midweek, so that's a marginal improvement.Whitehawk late Oct, Lewes in December and Margate in Feb. Fuck off.
We've only lost twice on the opening day in the last 17 years, and never in the Isthmian League since 2005, so if tradition is maintained we'll get at least a point.Alex Teniola to score the winner on the opening day of Dulwich tradition is to be maintained.
There was a very atmospheric midweek in Lewes a few years back I seem to remember. Crisp winter evening, mist rolling in off the hills. Or the sea. One of them. Anyway, was very nice.Lewes could end up in midweek, as that's an FA Trophy date.
I'll settle for Lewes at any time of the year on any day, just as long as we get a result. We've lost on all 6 previous league visits, including two seasons when Lewes were relegated. There was a very atmospheric midweek in Lewes a few years back I seem to remember. Last time I was down there for a womens game at May bank holiday weekend I went to the Beak taproom. Was disappointed as they’d sold out of anything that wasn’t a 7% IPA and also it wasn’t really the easiest to combine with the ground. Part of hoping for a weekend trip there is to have a second crack at the place.
It'll be looking unattractive for them if they need a result and we're in the mix too. Their squad is packed with players who failed to punch their weight in our colours. Hayden Bird must be gutted he missed out on signing them all for Leatherhead, so as long as we get our own team right there's nothing to fear there. If we haven't got enough points from the first 41 matches it's irrelevant anyway.Cray at home on the last day of the season is looking unattractive as well!
Might be quite hostile for some of them - Steve Deltasix will be waiting for George Porter in particular ! As long as I can get to games after work, remember getting to Euston in the pouring rain when it was already half time at Wingate and Finchley last season...though maybe I didn't miss out. It'll be looking unattractive for them if they need a result and we're in the mix too. What makes you think Porter and Raymond won't already be suspended for the final game of the season themselves!I would bring in Krasniqi for his first game of the season. We might lose 1 player (him) but surely e would take a few of theirs ( Porter, Raymond...) with him
Couple of mad dashes for the last train at the Dripping Pan stick in the mind to a degree. I forget the exact years but one was an FA Cup tie in the qualifying rounds that we won 3-1 on penalties after a 0-0 draw. I’m sure the referee was one of consistently annoying ones that seemed to crop much more often than others - probably either Valentino or Nemering-Knowle (spellcheck please). The other was George Elokobi’s only first team appearance when the team coach was delayed on the way down and the kickoff was delayed by more than an hour. There was a very atmospheric midweek in Lewes a few years back I seem to remember. I don’t think we persuaded the referee in the traditional way of asking him. I believe Dave Garland pulled the goal netting from its pegs to ensure it needed a little remedial work. Les then appeared as they were pegging it backThe FA Cup win was the 2000/01 relegation season. Les Cleevely saved three kicks in the shoot out. We'd also successfully persuaded the referee to delay the kick off for that match, much to Lewes"s annoyance, because Les had been held up on the way. I think Nemerin-Noel was the referee in question, definitely one of the more erratic arbiters of that era. The first time we encountered him he seemed to give everything against us, but subsequent matches revealed him to be equally capable of turning the game in our favour.
The George Elokobi match was autumn 2003.
Quite an easy midweek venue to get home from by train under normal circumstances.
