Young mothers evicted from London hostel may be rehoused 200 miles away

New Era and E15 are separate groups aren't they? This is just the New Era estate not (for now) being fucked up by greedy investors. The E15 folks are I think from a different estate or estates?

Yep. E15 was about young mothers living in a hostel that was being shut down, and the fact that the local authority was preparing to ship them out all over the fucking shop, away from their families and their support networks, so they squatted a cleared council estate supposedly awaiting demolition (for the last ten or so years, IIRC  ).

Yesterday: As we waited w/ Sam, @FocusE15 mum, to stop bailiffs, a stranger arrived + wrote a cheque to pay the debt!

Over 1000 pounds, pretty amazing really.

As one of the comments on the article points out, Newham council recently spunked £111,000,000 on a new head quarters. The families facing eviction are having this done to them because of a £41,000 cut. That's 2707 years of caring for fellow human beings thrown out the window in favour of sparkly light fittings costing £1800 a piece and trendy sofas. :(

And the voters? What are they doing about it? Is the situation that the majority of voters don't give a fuck, therefore the Council will act as it wishes.

The danger in today's world is not corruption, it is apathy.

You miss the point that some of the apathy is caused by deeply-ingrained corruption.

The answer is in the hands of the people, and more importantly, in the hands of the organisers of the people.

I appreciate that this might be like trying to herd cats, however, a meeting of representatives of all the left splinters, and the formation of a new socialist party should be possible. It would certainly involve a lot of divestment of self-aggrandisement, to make people realise that being part of a party that people will vote for, is better than leading a party of fifty members.

Just wanted to bump this as I've been keeping in touch with Focus when I can, and whilst the media reportage might have died down after the other year, they're still doing excellent work.

Firstly, that the E15 hostel has recently been bought by Newham Council. In what seems a pretty opportunist move and one that seems to seek to create some sort of hierarchy of housing need and try and pit those without homes against each other

Was this always your plan Mayor Robin Wales?
Focus E15 hostel residents speak out again

Newham Labour and Mayor Wales aren't much different to Lambeth Labour. Totally unopposed in the council and just keep fucking over people.
