Worst Films

No, not in the slightest. Look at Clerks. It's not technically proficient but it's a wonderful film.

It's just getting annoyed by a "Time to Kill" or "Shakespeare in Love", when Hollywood have produced far worse films about racism (Crash) and worse historical romantic comedies (Kate and Leopold) both off the top of my head.
BUT MORE PEOPLE HAVE SEEN SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE THAN THOSE OTHER MOVIES

Forgot about LA Confidential. Not as good as the book of course but performance wise it's spot on. Spacey and Pearce are also excellent.
Mann is an overpaid lighting technician though. The Insider is his most dull film.

Son et lumiere, please.

Crash and SiL both won best picture. Shakespeare did better in box office. Is that the criteria, worst film to make the most money?

I have a confession I quite like SiL, there's far more offensive rom com fare out. Beside sTom Stoppard's Oscar acceptance speech was excellent.

Rocky won an Oscar, so it's no guarantee of quality.

I thought 1976 must have been a poor year for film, then I looked up the films Rocky beat! OMG!

I'm not saying it is. In fact it isn't When Goodfellas lost to Dances with Wolves, I think Harvey Keital quipped "Marty got what he deserved exclusion from mediocrity".

It's just I'm struggling to see why a Time to Kill or Shakespeare in Love are being called the worst films, when by any criteria there are worse films than either one of them.

See Dances with Wolves. And so many other years.

Nothing wrong with Shakespeare in Love. It's a very good romantic comedy, and that's quite a neglected genre when it comes to awards. Was Groundhog Day even nominated for an Oscar (not that anything was beating Schindler's List that year).

Wasn't even nominated. Bill Murray didn't win the MTV award for "best comedic performance" (Robin Williams won for Aladdin)

Patch Adams, The Robin Williams comedy oncology film. A film so bad, that I tried to walk out on it, but the steward refused to open the door as we were 40,000 feet up. The bastard.

And Nicholas Cage's and Neil La Bute re-make of The Wicker Man. The original had some terrible, wonderful flaws, but had charm, intelligence and some wonderful performances (especially by Edward Woodward). The re-make carefully excised all that was (often unintentionally) good, but kept a few famous lines from the original to make a hammy, boring and misogynist piece of expensive pap.
I too have been unfortunate enough to see Patch Adams and absolutely agree. :(

Dances with Wolves isn't actually a bad film but you never feel like watching it again whereas Goodfellas bears repeated viewings.

With the exception of Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels everything Guy Richie has ever directed.......

The one where brad ptt did a terrible terrible traveller accent was pretty good, but mainly for Bricktop and his pig rant.

The studio reshot the ending because they didn't like a asian hero and his black love interest kissing in the final scene.

Aftershock - Spoiled brats caught up in earthquake drama that leads to rampaging rapey hordes of escaped prisoners (ie, working class people). This shit got a cinema release in Dublin. Valparaiso cable car fall scene is well done tbf. Eli Roth. what is to be done with you.

I bought a copy of Snowmageddon in the shit bin at HMV last year, because it looked so awful. I underestimated just how shit it was. :D
