THEY ARE COMING TONIGHT. THIS IS NOT A DRILL!

I know it's cold and I know it's raining. I don't give a shit. They will try to use the weather to hide their illegal tactics. We need EVERYONE - Berkeley, Oakland, Emeryville, EVERYONE to come out and stand with us!

Now talk at occupy Berkeley specifically about building a 'revolutionary social movement' and calling for strikes. This, is in response to the recent violent evictions by the UCPD.

excellent articles BA - thanks for bringing them to folk's attention.

This bits key i guess:

"So I suggested that Occupy should work in collaboration with the longshoremen and their union and I still hope this will happen. There are battles to come. It’s good that labor’s response to Occupy Wall Street has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s good that Occupy wants to support workers. It’s inspiring to see the courage of the young protesters. Now let’s use this winter to better understand the strengths and weaknesses of Occupy so that in the spring we will be stronger. And “calm down.” "

"And this brings me back to the conclusion of my Counterpunch piece: there are fundamental issues here, including the foundational place of self-activity – “The emancipation of the working class must be the act of the workers themselves.”
"

The Occupy Movement faced intense police violence, again last night. Over 300 arrested, many injured. The crime: They were trying to make use of a vacant building for community use. Occupy Movements across the U.S. will demonstrate in solidarity today at 7pm. (details soon)

Statement from Occupy Wall Street:

Yesterday, Occupy Oakland moved to convert a vacant building into a community center to provide education, medical, and housing services for the 99%. Police responded with tear gas, rubber bullets, beanbag rounds and mass arrests. The state has compounded its policy of callous indifference with a ruthless display of violent repression. The Occupy movement will respond, as we have always reponded: ...with an overwhelming show of collective resistance. Today, we take to the streets. Across the country, we will demonstrate our resolve to overcome repression and continue to build a better world grounded in love and solidarity for one another. All eyes on all Occupies.

SOLIDARITY SUNDAY, 7pm EST, Sunday, January 29. Check your local Occupation for convergence points.

Be there.

'Before the Great Crash, critics of globalisation were isolated on the loony fringe: tear-gassed in Seattle and whacked with truncheons in Prague, as the west's leaders gathered to congratulate themselves on reaping the benefits of unfettered world trade.'

yes....

Activists and Anarchists Speak for Themselves at Occupy Oakland

good article.. covers that prick Hedges outbursts about 'blac bloc' too...

Hedges has a point:
Once the Occupy movement is painted as a flag-burning, rock-throwing, angry mob we are finished.
and:
The Black Bloc movement bears the rigidity and dogmatism of all absolutism sects. Its adherents alone possess the truth. They alone understand. They alone arrogate the right, because they are enlightened and we are not, to dismiss and ignore competing points of view as infantile and irrelevant. They hear only their own voices. They heed only their own thoughts. They believe only their own clichés. And this makes them not only deeply intolerant but stupid.

investigation says that Oakland cops used prohibited weapons and force
also 'mutual-aid' agencies who are not held to the same laws and agreements

but they are having some re-training so all good
ny times said:
The changes were recommended by the Frazier Group, the independent agency hired by the department to investigate complaints about the policing of Occupy Oakland. Chief Jordan said that the department was also forming a community advisory working group to review the department’s current policy and improving its communication with outside law-enforcement agencies that provide mutual aid.

You know I was almost proud of how our cops and our Occupy protesters handled things until:

Forty-five police officers, K9 units and a helicopter swarmed Nebraska's Centennial Mall on Wednesday morning and swept away the last Occupy Lincoln protesters and their encampment.

Police ushered three people off the mall at about 4 a.m. while crews from the city Parks and Recreation Department cleaned up the last remnants of the camp established in mid-October.

"It was really a non-event," Public Safety Director Tom Casady said.
One person, Jeffrey Eggerss, 22, of Lincoln, was arrested for failing to comply with police. He made bail and was out of jail by 6:45 a.m.

Eggerss said he and another man saw police marshaling forces on the north side of the mall at about 4 a.m. and decided to videotape the action. After officers told him to leave, Eggerss said, he heading south of L Street. When they told him to leave there, he said, he went to pick up a backpack filled with water and snacks and was arrested.

FFS. Forty-five cops, a helicopter, and a K-9 unit to handle three stragglers and one tent? :(

I should clarify. Centenial Mall is the green space along the approach to the capitol building.

I went past on the afternoon of the 1st and they were mostly gone and the rest were packing up. No need for so much overkill.

This is Occupy Lincoln at the point where they had the most people.
