can you point to examples from history or current events that make you think this? I can think of events that show the opposite, that too much false unity can sink socialism.

What inifghting? What about the finances? Why would it have mattered if these problems that i think you're going to flush out never happened? The wider social situation meant that the CPGB could only ever be a minority component of a wider labour movement - never a dominant force.

And can we now assume that you are not on about marxism now (and before) but a particular party organisation in a particular period?

Following todays incursion into west belfast by royalist extremists some of our comrades have been hospitalised. We appeal to all right thinking republicans to help us reject this royalist celebration. While others are shaking hands with a forgein invader true republicans have been beaten with hatchets, knives and left hospitalised. What happened to the Ireland of equals that we were promised? This is more evidence that just as in 69. This is a british colony for british people and Irish people will be subjected to the harsh reality that they are not welcome in their own land.

Apparently after discussions in his party Martin McGuinness has decided to meet the Queen when she is over there next week.

I suppose he is now a politician so why not, but he is also a former terrorist, it appears the hesitancy has been more on his side than on the Queen's which in itself is interesting.
