Refurbed Plan B / Phonox

i dunno - i haven't been to a bricks party before.
i do go to some semi legit warehouse parties occasionally and they can be fun - smokers love them!

is it the same place that had the art school type caff on the roof this summer?
this sort of thing and the apollo video shop thing are making me thankful for the recession
berlin vibes

Ive been in - stand in the very middle of the dancefloor and the soundsytem is like having headphones on - super crispy. Elsewhere though its a bit lacking - reason being all the speakers are pointed into the middle of the room.

Went to Goldie/Plastician and it was all good - though i did feel a bit old!

Its definitely better than before, but I thought it was a little too bright...small point i guess, but i like to dance in the dark a bit more...

it is too bright near the dj box and up at the top of the stage.

agree

left at 3, no idea who was what and playing when. it was just cracking music to dance too ( dunno why but my fear was yoda was gonna be slow hip hop..but it was party music!!

never stepped for in the place till last night. Saw Wolf Eyes and a couple of other noisy acts. Great venue, wikid sound. Didn't go to the basement room but the place is ideal for bands and stuff. Hope they do more gigs there. Brixton needs a decent sounding medium sized venue.

I was quite amused to see they've now got about two or three 'outside' tables squashed into the entrance bit.

Yep, it's owned by the Colombo Group, the same chain who do XOYO and the Blues Kitchen - but they get shirty if you say that they're a chain. Even though they are.

How many sites equals a 'chain'? I'm thinking three as a minimum, though that is mostly a triangle. If they are all called something different is it still a 'chain'. Maybe a 'conglomerate' or 'corporation'. There are 3 blues kitchens and one of everything else in the Colombo group. Solve for X. (OYO)

Just one more thing....

looks like they've got at least 10 venues
agree its not a chain though - chain implies they are all the same thing

They're a well funded company - with plenty of other interests - running three identically themed 'Blues Kitchens' in large venues in the hippest parts of London. I'd call that a chain myself. A small chain perhaps, but a chain nonetheless!

I found a picture...wood finish is nice

hanging speakers usually a sure sign of meh sound, but there are some scoopy looking things on the floor there on the right hand side...could be okay

It's a shame that they don't do more live gigs there. I put on some gigs when it was Plan B and the bands sounded absolutely fantastic - better than any other comparable venue in Brixton.

The lineups they are booking are undeniably more consistent than when it was plan b. However its a shame they're so focused on the "current" cool sound in dance music.
I used to like the fact that plan b used to have a bit of everything. That said I didnt really go to that many of them.
