Nail bomb in Tipton

tbh it's more like 'leaderless resistance' the way the radical / far right seems all the time to go for rather ineffectual nail bombs - more than coincidence, surely, that all the way back at least as far as copeland pretty much every bnper or similar who has been up to this sort of thing has been pissing about with nail bombs.

Well I suppose there's nail bombs and there's NAIL BOMBS. This one seems to be a nail bomb.

d'you mean william laud, late archbishop of canterbury, executed 1645?
What a peculiar notion.

The mosque is the central place of worship for Tipton's long-established Muslim community including three men from the area who were captured in Afghanistan in 2002 and taken to Guantanamo Bay.

Ruhal Ahmed, Asif Iqbal, both 22 at the time, and 26-year-old Shafiq Rasul were dubbed the "Tipton Taliban" and were held at the US camp in Cuba for two years.

Nice, balanced bit of reporting from the BBC. Doesn't bother to mention this bit though, strangely enough.

After negotiations between the governments and British assessment of their interrogations, the men were repatriated to the United Kingdom in March 2004. They were released without charge the next day.

This could have been fucking horrendous if they'd got it right by the sounds of it. I hope they get the book thrown at them, and then some.

i would assume, given the recent media footprint of other attacks on Mosques and other obviously Islamic centres, that the Govt have asked the media to keep the coverage to the bare minimum - as mentioned above, in an 'oxygen of publicity' style.

i can see why the govt would go do that route, it has some merit when dealing with the 'lone wolf' type threat, but i'm not sure that the tactic won't develop its own blowback in the shape of otherwise non-radical Muslims who start to feel that the attacks on their community aren't given the same weight as other attacks on other communities/the state - and who decide to respond for themselves, or just feel even more marginalised.

that said, its a pretty grim judgement call - either give anti-Islamic terrorism a massive publicity boost, or disafect an entire comunity. nice...

Its a bunch of shit choices and is probably the best choice as long as nobody gets hurt.
Once that happens though all bets are off.
You dont need any technical ability to make a nailbomb that can kill so police haven't got anything to go on knicking everyone who donwloads the turner diarys or posts on st****front while a good idea is probably counterproductive but plenty of racists have never heard of either.

If somebody ends up getting killed inone of these attacks things could get real ugly real fast.

Lets face it they don't nick a number of people that plant bombs because they don't have the evidence at the time...

The bomb makers in NI at the height of the trouble were known about, but still managed to circumvent surveillance to build and deploy bombs. The same happens know with Islamic cells and now with the far-right numbnuts. The information on how to make home-made explosives is well known as is pipe-bombs, nail-bombs, etc. A little bit of mechanical and chemical know-how at GCSE level is all that's required.

Until the idiots screw up it's unlikely that the police will know about them, unless they've been spectacularly clueless to search for detailed info on-line.

I do hope that they have caught and can prosecute the idiots behind this. We don't need anything to inflame the situation any further in either direction. I'm pretty sure that Lee Rigbys family aren't wanting this sort of silliness. He was a soldier, in the wrong place at the wrong time, not a martyr to some deluded cause.

And it seems they are looking at these two for two attacks - Tipton and Walsall. The 'fresh intelligence' about the old one in wolves a few hours after they were nicked, sounds like they may have offered them that one.

That seems to have happened 3 weeks ago but has only just been discovered

Yeah. But the one in Walsall wasn't reported until the next day when someone found the remains outside. Some people heard it apparently, but presumed it was a firework.

There's more about the Wolverhampton incident coming out.
Apparently police were called on the 28th June

West Midlands Police Assistant Chief Constable Marcus Beale confirmed officers had responded to reports of a ‘bang’ on June 28.
He said today: “There was a call about a loud bang and a puff of smoke around that time and there was a normal response officer sent to the scene.
“Now, as a result of intelligence following the arrest of two men in Birmingham yesterday, we have carried out a detailed forensic search of the Wolverhampton scene.
“We have discovered it was the scene of an explosion that took place on June 28.”
He added: “We are now investigating this as part of a series of events.”

What sort of thought process would you have to go through to reach the conclusion that what a thread about racist nail-bombs and suspected racist murder really needs is a load of racist generalisations?

Fuckwit.

Ukraine isn't "half Russian". Ukraine and Russia speak slightly different versions of the same language, and have about 300 years of shared culture, but also has links to Polish, Lithuanian and Teutonic culture. Ethnic Russians are also a minority in Ukraine that constitute nowhere near "half" of the population.

On the BBC News now the 25 year old Ukrainian, Pavlo Lapshyn, has been charged with murder and will appear in Westminster Magistrates Court tomorrow.
