Boxster

I have a whopping soft spot for Boxters - I think it's down to the (rubbish!) Playstation game that was bought out at the same time - I once looked into one years ago though gladly snapped out of it. When I surveyed all my pals they said it's always been a poor mans 911, though for me they were preferable. They're not hairdressers cars like a TT or the Ka roadster are IMO - a bankers bit-on-the-side mebbe?

The main thing that nagged me was (and I would be buying one at the end of it's life - I guess similar to you) the wear and tear - stories of new wheels (or parts) costing more than the rent etc.

The thing that actually killed the plan dead was an acquaintance buying one - I was no way going to copy him!
There's some decent ones out there for between £6k and £8k

And what has happened to Urban?
Why, this was the scene at the last Offline event...

Wasn't there issues with the boxster?

Something to do with the cylinders and cylinder heads cracking, and numerous other engine problems iirc?

If I wanted a 2 seater I think I'd be looking at a Honda S2000....... but tbh I'd rather have a hot hatch, or a fast estate, i.e. either a civic type r (I know its not as quick, but its not a wannabe posh persons car) or a subaru forester STI

yesh

Mk1 has nikasil bore issues, as did everyone else who used nikasil back in the day. but these are going to be nearly 20 years old now so will have been likely be sorted or fucked - the S2 onwards are better I spse. Like anyfink of this age, I try not to worry about the size of the history file but only what has been done in the last few years......

a S/H boxster costs the same as a S/H rolex submariner, yet many touch themselves inappropriately when discussing watches that lose like 20 seconds a day and cost more than a ( admittedly very shit ) flat in Billingham

I've fancied one for a while. I haven't driven Porsche for a few years. At the moment I have the spare cash to buy an older one and use as a second car. But, should I? Mrs D has said we have the money if I really want to, but is reiterating her "but we need something sensible"

I really don't fancy a 911, and very much fancy the idea of a small, 2 seater convertible for high days and holidays.

I fancy one in yellow or red.

The Porsche Boxster, or as I like to think of it, the Borscht-belt Poxster.

Why are they called hairdresser's cars?

And what has happened to Urban?

Porsche-owning should warrant an instaban

Porsches aren't high-ticket in the way many other sports cars are, especially at 2nd-hand prices. I'm not a fan myself, but I don't see them in the same light as a Ferrari, or an Aston Martin. They're mass-production cars in a way that a lot of their contemporaries aren't.

Bet is was Dan U

He was dissing the Range Rover yesterday as being beneath his dignity.

edit: This place has changed.

I loathe Range Rovers, ever since a mate had one in the mid-eighties, and used to come round almost every weekend and beg me to have a look under the bonnet, cos yet another thing had gone wrong.
And don't get me started on the bodywork and trim problems he had...

Get one of these:

A third of the price of a cheap, second hand Boxter, and that's without factoring in petrol costs, insurance and resprays from knobs drawn on your bonnet.

An Urb, who shall remain nameless, has admitted to owning a Lamborghini. There's a lot of car!

said lambo would also seem to be a box of bits with little chance of anything happening until major surgery can be carried out- and with these, major surgery is expensive and there is no guaranteee of a long term fix... so maybe not that bling

I'd be *more* likely to draw knobs on the bonnet of that thing tbh. Utter shite of a 'car'

I wouldnt do porsche, not at all keen. As mentioned above, mx5's have great reputation for reliability, fun, handling...i hanker after a late 3l, alfa GTV, propper drivers cars

I finished the Countach and sold it! It was suicidally dangerous to drive (LHD in RHD country) and impossible to insure so I cashed it in. I've now got a crippled Murcielago that was a finance repossession and stood in a Paramatta car lot for nearly two years. I've spent the last two months building a beam crane that's capable of lifting the ludicrously large engine and transmission out.

Sod the Boxter & get an S2000. Much more fun & exclusive.

The F20C motor is pretty gutless until the VTEC moment though, which is ok if you want to drive round at 7,000rpm plus all day I suppose. Plus every single S2000 in existence has been badly modified by now.

^^^thems japanese cars do get modded to fuck- which is a shame- nailed on hi lift spoilers on a soft top - why ?

the engines are a delight though if you can live with the VTEC, Honda can produce some lovely stuff

as mentioned before by VP, porsches can do stupendous mileage and are a production car rather than a tin foil vanity excercise. I saw a maclaren owner , crying down the phone at scratchwood services a few years ago, with its gold foil gold lined engine bay open to the world for all to see

on a sad note, a good boxster will cost Kia c'eed money and retain its value pretty much- thats not to be sneered at.

I dont but what a moment when it does. And its 6000rpm when it kicks in (apols for pedant mode) I also like the fact that other owners always wave/acknowledge you. Dont get that in a Boxter.
