Ye Olde 'Which Bread' Thread

Serious question!

When I'm not making my own, Morrison's and Sainsbury's seem to make the only palatable stuff. Or the small local baker, admittedly!

Sainsbury's six-seed is gorgeous; the artisan stuff is mostly stiff and terrible. Morrison's seem to get pretty much everything right, particularly date and walnut *drools*

Home made - chilli, sundried tomato and olive :)

Tesco's do a half-decent seeded one now; but various Tesco's just have shite. Asda are crap.

That is all.

Home made with a bit of white, wholemeal and spelt in it. And some hemp seeds, poppy seeds and cumin seeds.

Or the stuff from Yasar Halim that looks like a floppy hat. Bought on Saturday morning, and got home while it's still warm from the oven.

Or a proper french baguette, with the proper flour so it's all airy and crunchy.

I can't eat that white sliced bread - it makes me gag. :(

Prince Charles makes a very nice seeded loaf but I can't remember which one it was.

To answer the question, I like granary or wholemeal but I can eat white baguettes or a white loaf that hasn't been sliced. :)

Baldrick, my sister bought me a breadmaker and told me that I would never buy bread again. I've used it once.

Ha, me too. Actually, I used it a fair bit at first, but then started making bread by hand.

I can't remember who we gave the breadmaker to in the end. There must be hundreds of people around and about with electrical cast-offs from us

The only thing I've used lots is the espresso maker. It's only the possibility of sudden death from an electric shock that is making me wary of using it more

I haven't used my breadmaker for a couple of months; but it's due being digged out again!!! And it's a weekly or less usage when it's out!!!

Just got my kitchimatchin!!! Maybe time for new bread!!!

you need to jump on the Eurostar for a proper baguette, you can't get the proper stuff over here, with the possible exception of the french bakery on Queensway, best croissants this side of the channel.

I won't attempt to argue with you on that one, the best French baguettes are bought from a proper bakery in France. :D

Didn't know about Queensway. My tube to work goes past there. Hmmm...

As far as bagged, pre-sliced stuff goes, Vogel's do a nice soya and linseed loaf.

God help me - I'm turning into a hippy :(

Paris, preferably. the bakery in Queensway, last time I used it (5 years ago, when I was working around there, was actually run by a spanish family, but the original lot were french.

if hippies eat bagged pre-sliced stuff, they should be eradicated from the face of the planet.

They use the hard Durum wheat - which only grows in hot places.

thick white sliced for toast.

m&s sunflower and honey loaf. yum.

kingsmill do a mixed seed batch (I think, my sister gave me it once, never seen it since) that is rather nice.
