Yale Lock / Locksmith

Badgers

Mr Big Shrimp!
R.I.P.
Our internal door Yale Lock is not working

It is jammed open like the catch is on. Have taken it off and it seems to work okay until I put the plate on (at the bottom of the pic below) and I can't work out why.

Can you just replace the back bit or need a whole new lock?

This is in the Brixton Thread as I think I need to find a locksmith :(

The plate looks OK so it's probably something wrong with the way it connects to the rest of the lock.

Take it to a locksmith and ask if they can fix it, but it's probably cheaper and better to buy a new one.

Personally I'd recommend Armour Lock and Safe over Fortress Lock. If the barrel moves smoothly and the key inserts and withdraws easily just a back will be fine.I can't see in the photos but a careful inspection should identify the problem which you may well be able to correct yourself.

My guess is that their time would be more expensive than a new lock :hmm:

How much is a Yale (cheapest) Lock roughly? Seems to be about £20ish looking online.

Very easy to replace. Gimme a shout if you're really dim ;)

:D :D

Yeah exactly. I tried bodging one years ago that was doing the same thing as yours. I think it was to do with a spring not doing something properly. (I'm not an expert, ha ha). But it only fixed it temporarily so I bought a new one.

£20 seems about right. Just screw it into the hole where the old one was innit.

(I spent 6 hours fitting a new mortice lock last week, which was a bastard  ).

Annoyingly I was sure I had a couple of old ones somewhere but no idea where.

peterkro Armour Lock and Safe over Fortress Lock is only a short walk on the way to town. I think I will pop in there today :)

Locksmith? Can't help you there honeyflaps, however if you need a cocksmith then I'm your man! ;) ;)

Wait. Shit. Badgers?! Sorry I thought you were a woman then, not being able to fix a lock and that :p
