Writing competitions

Does anyone go in for writing competitions? Anything from Womans Own to Amazon Studios - there seem to be plenty out there. Any recommendations/tips/war stories to share?

NaNoWriMo is a good un, your a bit late for it though.

I know NaNo - I was thinking more of ones that actually have a cash prize and/or get you published.
