But I do mind! :( Although it may not be for the men, the Olympics are massive for women's football and their participation in 2012 was really important for the British women's team. I understand it's precarious, but I really do think it's a disappointment they can't play on the biggest stage. A lot of talented women missing out; England were third in the World Cup, let's not forget, and I know Scotland at least have a couple of handy players.

Sweden have knocked out Brazil and they're into the final!
a shame for Brazil it would've been a great atmosphere if they'd got there. Sweden though were disciplined and held their nerve and a real achievement for them.
 
Crikey, haven't been watching but crikey! USA and Brazil in one tournament (both on pennos, admittedly).

Brazilian teams not doing well in home S/Fs :(
 
I didn't realise until they said on the commentry that Sweden only qualified because of GB not competing

wasn't to be sadly. an entertaining game though. Some good play from Canada especially in the 2nd half, it just wouldn't fall into place for them when they needed it and Germany took their chances well including a carelessly given away penalty early on. by the end you could see the Canadians were losing belief.

Anyway, that makes a Sweden v Germany final and Brazil v Canada for the bronze medal - looking forward to both of those.
