Windrush Square going through a bad patch again?

Is it me, or is Windrush Square going through another bad patch? Every morning there are numerous empty crack wrappers and pipes on the doorstep, there seems to be rubbish everywhere and I haven't seen a policeman on duty after dark for weeks.

Having lived here for 12 years I am fairly immune to the anti social behaviour, but it seems to be getting much worse. One neighbour has actually taken to living with friends at the weekend because the noise is getting so bad.

Agree with you but isn't this kind of anti social behaviour encouraged by the council, who seem not to care what residents want!

I'm so glad I live at the other end of Rushcroft Road. I don't know how the people in the Bovril building put up with the drunks sitting on their wall. I'd be fitting railings to stop them. And I'd be out kicking that big sound system to pieces. The pissheads turn it right up until its 99% distortion and 1% music. They're too wasted to notice. Next time it happens I shall be having a word.

The Brixton Society have a Friends of Windrush Square group. They have been trying to get better use of the square.

I have understood that Brixton BID are trying to get control of the square. I believe they have offered to pay for maintenance, including the toilets, if they are given "free reign" to rent it as an event space. I can't imagine that having more predictably amplified commercial events there will be particularly fun for nearby residents.

Or they could just restore some seating back to the middle of the square (which was removed when the square got tarted up a few years back.)
