Why Festivals are fucking shit.

I agree with the shower comment, but find the 'Leave festies for the reallll people maaaaaan' attitude equally silly...

I do think Festivals have reached, and perhaps started to receed from, a high water mark (of mainstream popularity). They seemed to be in the media constantly last summer, getting the kind of profile they never used to - broadsheet newspaper guides to festivals, minor festivals being mentioned on news, etc.

Perhaps that's true, but is it really that big a deal to those attending? I'm never one for the main stages and worrying the headliners

The appeal of a good festival (for me at least) - getting wasted with mates in a somewhat random musical wonderland - remains largely unaffected to me. If it's mainly about clean toilets and bands just moved outdoors it kind of loses the attraction for me.

The thing pisses me off about festivals is that there are so many people in a confined area have having more fun than me.

I only go to local festivals ones now. This means that I generally bump onto people that I know and I can get to them on my bike. Organisers of the local Wood and Truck festivals even give you a free pint when you arrive your bike - winner!

Standing in the open air, listening to music, meeting randoms and drinking booze.

The horror! I'd much rather be in the office working or sat at home watching telly on my own before colapsing in a corner crying whilst i wank myself furiously.

Last festival i did from a hotel. I'd have much rather camped despite the luxury of having a proper bed and nice toilets. I guess I'm strange.

Festivals and going abroad are amongst the activities that the bourgeois use to make themselves seem more interesting....

Please notice the use of the word "seem"

Cuntish stewards.
.

blame the wideboys who dominate the 'stewarding' market, the guys doing none badged roles at the festivals will have had minimal training and be being paid a fixed 'day rate' which often works out less than NMW ...

some of the bedged guys who work festivals work festivals because they can't get badged work where they live due to being utter fucknuggets

I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that I'm no longer interested in festivals unless I'm there as part of the crew.

aye, why pay to go to a festival when you can go for nowt or even get paid, downside being doing a bit of work / seeing some patients

No, i like the chai wallahs...anyone bringing me tea in the morning gets my thumbs up

Haha the chai wallah comment was a bit of amphet-fueled righteous rage over their crew meals last year at various points, their actual tent, vibe, tea n people are pretty fucking sound. Apparently they had their budget slashed at Glasto this year and had to drop all non-dj performers? Laaaame!

Getting to/from festivals can be a bit of a mission and effort
theft is SHIT
security can be such a shower of cunts

struggling to find many hates actually...

Where's the fun in that? I don't want to be responsible at a festival or have any commitments really.

Personally I'm happy to stumble around like a stinking hobo, duties and responsibilities left well behind. Believe it or not, that's a contrast to daily life.

:hmm:

stewards are normally unpaid volunteers

I am pretty much with you on this. However I do like to occupy myself with something. And sometimes participating can make things interesting and fun in a different way.

Indeed!
If you can't live without a shower for a couple of days, can't cope with roughing it a bit, don't like 'festival bands', talking to random nutters, drinking cider, getting off your head... then stay at fucking home!

Not everyone likes the same thing, so if it's not your bag, then don't go. That way most festivals won't sell out as quick, so people who actually enjoy them have more chance of getting a ticket.

There was a time when festivals were just for hippies, travellers, crusties and freaks... sometimes I think it was better that way :)

Old school .... :)

Agree with all of this ...

Any planned for later this summer, mr s?

Yes - but that has nothing really to do with the festival.. folk are bored as punters.. so they'd rather spend the time directing traffic in car parks.

while some of the fluffy customer services roles and welfare is volunterers

the people doing gates and that aren't - they'll look very much like security but their role will be defined in such a way as it;s none-badged and consequently NMW or sub NMW vs the premium being badged commands

the badged roles definitely aren't

i'm with you 100% on that
i hate the whole pop bands in the daylight aspect; festival music should either be space rock (hawkwind, ozrics), deedley dee dub folk or dj's, after dark, playing all night

Yep. And I enjoy getting thoroughly out of my fucking face all weekend on various substances - it's part of it. I can do it at home, but I also like to talk bollocks with strangers, make temporary best friends, dance all night and all day in the open air, and commune, maaan.

I prefer the smaller festivals - I love the community feel to them. They're also really cheap, for tickets, food, booze (and you can take your own booze to them as well) and travelling (longest trip is about 2 hours). 3 mins from parking to campsite - what's not to love?

Showers? Uh? Best justification I've found so far to stay stinky for a weekend
