When I were a lad and worked ont farm, bales were oblong and could be picked up and flung onto a trailer. We would pick them up by the baler twine, knee them up into the air then bounce then up to the top with our forearms. First day I did this I wore shorts and a T-shirt. My knees and arms were scratched to shreds by the straw.
I did that in Bakewell, on a campsite I was staying on. I don't know if we were any use to the farmer, but 15 year old me had a whale of a time hauling bales up to someone on a trailer. I imagine he must have appreciated it, because he gave me a pint of Stones in the campsite bar :D

I used to do that, up to a certain height, then I was trained to use a pitch-folk to get them up even higher, seriously built-up the arm muscles.
