What's the best windows browser for memory usage?

Karl Masks

Birds Angel Delight
With Opera running and nothing else but background/windows 11 processes I'm about 78% out of 8gb ram.

Is there anything that performs better?

I seem to alternate between Chrome and Firefox - which seem to alternate being crap and maxing out my 11 year old CPU.
Thankfully I have managed to make Chrome similar enough to FF - though I still use the latter for a few things for convenience...
With any other browser, the change in UI and loss of shortcuts ad saved logins is just too annoying.

I reckon I do OK for a boomer - albeit one who was in IT support for nearly 40 years.

I'm currently using Opera. I think it's ok, except for the RAM usage. It's just a nuisance and if I can find a better browser then great :D

As far as I can tell. Is there anything I ought be concernred with?
Dunno really - favourite browsers people?

I use Firefox except for a few sites that don't run properly on it, then I use Chromium (which I presume is same as Chrome). I really like Mozilla which is why I like Firefox - lots of people seem to hate it though.

Found Opera alright for memory use but hate how it locks you in to certain search engines.

Have you tried Vivaldi? I use it when I need something different from Firefox. It's made by the people who originally made Opera and it's very customisable.

There is a tab suspend add on for Chrome which helps with memory usage. I will dig out name if it is of interest.

ive used Opera for years and years - a fan
Not sure whats happened the last couple of months, the memory keeps maxing out
I did look it up and others are complaining and i even read some kind of explanation (forgot what). My experience over the years is if Opera ever gets buggy it gets fixed before too long, so Im going to ride it out
Its a new problem and it will get sorted im sure
Still by far my favourite browser and ive got loads installed
Brave is quite a good one btw

yes please

I find Firefox is occasionally freezing (and if I can get task manager up) it's using a heck of a lot of memory.

Rarely more than about 6 tabs open.

Happening on work laptop as well as at home, so can't be the add-ons I've got at home.

:hmm:

I have started using Brave now and then at home, as there's some things don't work properly on firefox any more :(

All of them. Six currently.

I tried Edge, didn't seem any different.
Not sure if different browsers have different settings to save memory automatically - at the last count I had 412 tabs open, and the laptop is currently using 9.7GB out of 16GB of RAM. I guess the browers I use (Firefox and Ghostery) must be doing some memory save thing in the background.

I'm using about 6 out of 8gb with all those tabs open. Perhaps having more RAM in general helps
