What's in your glass?

Dead cold san miguel, thought fuck it and picked up a box of them and a bottle of Mount Gay ont way home.

2011 St Emilion for which I paid about £8 a bottle some time ago - the 2012 is about £12.99 now bought by the case ...
Sadly I only have about 20 bottles...

Wine of this quality is probably under a fiver in Carrefour

France may lure me away from my relatively safe one glass a day ...

To my palate it used to be full-on cellar mould, it seems more fruity and less musty now.

Pretentious drinking today:
Grand-Constance-high-res-600-x-4521.jpg

Groot Constantia, Grand Constance (2012).

Apparently much loved by Napoleon, who would drink nothing else in his later years, and mentioned in Sense and Sensibility (for its 'healing powers on a disappointed heart', :D - appropriate!), and by Charles Dickens.
“Even more than Constantia, than opium, than Nuits, I prefer the elixer of your mouth, where love performs its slow dance.” - Baudelaire
I'll report back later ;).

I nearly reached for another bottle of St Emilion, but I have several years to drink the 20 bottles ..
So I grabbed another bottle of Aldi French Malbec which is cheap and today I'm actually almost as much after the alcohol as the taste.

I'll report back later ;).
So... ritual box opening, membrane removal, sawdust wiping, wax removal, cork pop, was fun.

Wine smelled gorgeous - all kinds of apricot, melon, raisin giddyness. But - I have to say, for all the hype, I wouldn't exactly call it a love-bubble. It's *very* sweet - almost cloying, and I'd say that everything gets a bit lost behind that. Smooth though, and pleasant enough, just not mind-blowing.

Ended up drinking this yesterday (someone had it at a party) :

Ron Zacapa Centenario, 23 year old rum. Bloody delicious. Fiery and incredibly smooth at the same time.
