Visiting the NEC

hash tag

Books, not bombs
Me n Mrs Tag are planning to visit the NEC next month and we plan an overnight stay on Thursday and Friday nights. . Local hotels all look very expensive and quite well booked out.
The plan I am looking at is staying somewhere like the Village in Coventry, leaving the car there and getting the train to the NEC (£20 for parking!).
Does this seem like a sensible option, what would those in the know do?

It's 10 minutes from Cov to the NEC by train and at worst runs every 30 mins.

I'd never normally tell people to visit Coventry, but this is a legit reason. You may as well check out the cathedrals, The Herbert and the old part of town whilst you're there. And the Old Windmill on Spon St if it's still a pub.

Call me a miser but the Leamington Spa train is a lot more expensive than the Coventry one. Also, someone has thrown cold water on Leamington Spa insinuating it is not as grand as it's name suggests

Leamington is lovely, ignore your colleague.

I suspect the trains that go through are Diesel instead of electric hence the price.

Your original plan is sound, except for the Coventry bit. Is there nothing hotel wise in the same price range in Birmingham? There's a lot more stuff to do, and lots of great burger joints! ;) Although I guess dumping the car is the problem and parking in Brum is pricey, especially as the council hate cars. Also check your car is CAZ worthy if entering Brum. The more I type the more I think, stick with Cov! 🤷‍♂️

If changing trains at Leamington isn’t a deal breaker, Warwick is a nice spot to have a break in.

We were taking the car, doing the NEC then headed up to Derby afterwards. I been offered 4* B&B, in Coventry £68.50 PN which sounds good.
Looking at about £200 PM near the NEC and parking in multi story.

We once stayed at the Crowne Plaza at the NEC in the days when we could attend gigs and found it very basic and quite pricey.

I have just arrived at the village hotel. I now know why it is a fraction of the price of Birmingham hotels. The hotel is a village, a huge village and noisy at that.
