Lively bit of archive footage:
During September 1960, electricity finally arrived in the village of Ystradfellte in the Brecon Beacons. However, as reporter John Mead discovered, not everybody in the village was keen on it's arrival.
Among the sweet and gloriously simplistic reactions of those interviewed in clip from September 1960 are Dai, the absent minded village handyman who gets his own age wrong by 13 years, and a stick-wielding villager who thinks electricity is “alright” but won’t be buying anything that actually uses it.
The parish vicar says the reaction of the 616 parishioners was “lukewarm, it was not 100%”.
Another member of the 600-strong parish “already has a wonderful iron and kettle and a beautiful gas oven” and is adamant that televisions are “not for people like us”.
