Sweet, managed to miss all this! So this will studying weather and then we've got the Chinese and US missions too.

I'm torn by this. On the one hand it's an exciting scientific first so I want it to succeed, on the other it's a UAE project so I want it to crash and burn in spectacular failure.

It was assembled in Colorado and launched from Japan so at least there probably weren't any indentured South Asian labourers killed during the project.

Well it made it into orbit, so that is two successes, getting to Mars and now achieving an orbit. Over the next days they will find out if their instruments work as planned.
