Travel plans, abandoned holidays and refund advice

Wizz Air cancelled and they were sneaky and gave me credit instead of a refund. It was possible to get a full refund but you had to know exactly how to do it. I'm sure this must be a tactic with other airlines so watch out.

Money Saving Expert is saying hold firm for the money back and ignore the voucher offer but it's a bit close. Surely they have to give the money back by law?

i had to call em up as they have disabled the refund/ cancel screen. if one of your flights has been cancelled by them, they will give a full refund and avios points back .but you need to request over the phone. i have concerns about all carriers casflow and do not want to be left with a useless voucher if it goes under

Just got a full refund on some BA avios flights. Use this link, also like like there is some useful info on refunds from cash flights too.
Hope this helps

Mrs Soul tried this earlier and it's been closed off by BA so no longer available as a workaround.

Was going to Cambridge this weekend, Yorkshire for a week in May, both now cancelled. Not optimistic about a week away in the Cotswolds in September.

I'm waiting on a fairly sizable refund from Wizz (approx £800). Fortunately its for a group of 6 of us so the liability is split should they go belly up. Still got the credit card to fall back on as a last resort to get the money back.

Using credit cards to book travel stuff is an absolute must if you have the choice.

I've got a staycation thing booked for mid July but made sure everything can be cancelled with full refund at the last minute. I'm thinking by July some of the rules will be relaxed but I can't really see pubs and restaurants being re-opened which kind of defeats the reason for going away. Might yet have to go camping, better than nothing I guess.

We put in a refund request from loveholiday that they have said they are processing... But currently nothing. Wondering whether to put in a claim with the credit card and with atol ... Just to fire on all cylinders.

I think (but don't know) the credit card company will just tell you to keep trying with the travel agent for the time being. ATOL won't get involved unless the agent has gone bust.

Spring is here and, as always, getting excited about travel. What do people have planned for the coming couple few months?
I was meant to go to Finland to work on a course this month. Then I was supposed to go to Abu Dhabi to work for two months. Clearly neither are happening. Istanbul is near lockdown - you're not allowed to leave the city without official permission, and considering I'm on an expired visa, can't see that I'd be considered a good candidate.

I'd like to think that I could get down to the South of Turkey in the next few months at least.

anyone know anything about getting money not vouchers back from Tui?
Genuinely asking for a friend!

If TUI cancels the holiday they must give the money back. If the customer chooses to defer they can get vouchers. If the customer can’t travel due to restrictions (such as to the US for non-US citizens right now, but the flight/holiday still goes, voucher.

Eurostar seem to be cocking this up. Booking by 30th Sept still seems a tough deadline given all the unknowns.
We sent you some eVouchers earlier in the week in response to the request you recently made.

We’re sorry, we made a mistake and didn’t send you enough vouchers to make up the value of your booking. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused.

We’re going to cancel the vouchers we sent you and would ask you to delete our previous emails.

We’ll be sending your replacement eVouchers within the next 14 days. We’re sorry that we can’t send them sooner, but this time period will allow us to make sure there are no further mistakes. Please look out for our emails in your inbox with the subject line: Your new, replacement eVouchers have arrived.

The good news is that you’ll be able to use your new eVouchers to make a booking at eurostar.com by 30 September 2020 (not the 30 June 2020 deadline on your old vouchers) for travel on any of our routes up to March 2021.

Apparently flights to Japan next year are dead cheap right now. I'd think about booking one if it weren't for the worry that I might be having to eat squirrels at that point.
