Tottenham Hotspur 2020-21

Spurs fans, I come cap in hand on behalf of one of your own.

My mum turns 70 at the end of November, and trying to think of possible Spurs-related gifts for her. There's the standard stuff like a stadium tour and such, but thought you folk might have some other ideas? Maybe something with a bit more history/sentiment to it?

She's got a season ticket, and you're home to Leeds that weekend, so she'll probably be going to that. She's not a big fan of attention, but maybe there'd be a way to mark her birthday without the whole stadium knowing who she is?

I'm pretty sure she's also already got a share in the club, as I remember being annoyed years ago that my brother had come up with that idea before me and got her one  :D
There was a company that do old newspaper reports of football clubs printed in a book. I got a Bristol City one for my Dad and he really liked it. Not sure if they still do it and might not be what you were thinking. It was probably expensive for what it was £25-£30 iirc but he was happy.

It was really very bad indeed!

had all the ingredients didn’t it?

Unbeaten, top of the table and Manager of the Month…

Then the international break fucked us yet again.

By 90 mins - early injury, red card, penalty.

Spursy

And then there’s the performance and in-game management 😆😆😆

Having said all that, big shout to Palace who were excellent and everything Spurs weren’t

How bad was it?
However bad you're thinking, it was worse. 60 minutes of 11 v 11, Palace better but us keeping them at arms length - the plan seems to be let the oppo wear themselves out and then pick them off.

Problem with that was Tanganga losing his head. He's been great in the first few games, but inexperience showed - Zaha got under his skin and the red was inevitable. 11 v 10, we had no answer whatsoever.

Fair play to Palace, fully deserving winners and a mention to the fans - they know how to create a fiery atmosphere.

Who's this Substitutes person they got to sign your team sheet?

Dunno, but that's not a bad side put out. First time we've seen the excellent front 3 backed up with 2 more attack minded midfielders in the 3. Relatively weak bench in terms of game changers if we need a goal, but good options to shore things up if Plan A works.

COYS!

Well that didn't work. On paper a good side, in reality we got rolled over. Not a good thing to have to say, but well done Arsenal - picked us off on the quick counter so easily.

9 goals conceded in 3 games is not acceptable. Something has to change - try 3 at the back maybe? Tanganga, Dier, Romero would be the obvious pick (or even Davies for a natural left sided defender), allowing Reguilon and Emerson to get forward without leaving such huge spaces for quick wide forwards (Saka, Smith-Rowe) to exploit.

Play it as a 3-4-1-2 would let Son play closer to Kane (who needs help... he's been poor, but has he had any support from midfield?) and might get Dele Alli playing again.

It's daft to be talking of a crisis so early in the season, but Nuno doesn't have a great deal of goodwill from the fans to fall back on. Much more of this and he'll be in trouble.

It's interesting that you actually had more possession than us. I was at the game and it didn't feel like that. But then, all our goals were defence to attack at speed. We're level on points to be fair, I had a great day, but we're both mid table

Harsh from the BBC

Harry Kane led a rare Spurs attack before stumbling and falling over the ball. Arsenal, as they did so often in a brilliant first 45 minutes, were off and running towards Hugo Lloris' goal.

Kane, to his credit, raced back into his own penalty area in an attempt to retrieve the latest in a long succession of Spurs first-half pratfalls, succeeding only in missing two tackles on Saka, who prompted bedlam by rolling home the finish.

And that was it. Game gone

Arsenal were a bit like Poch era Spurs in some respects. We used to do the high press to win the ball back quickly, but if that didn't work we dropped in to a deep back line, midfield close in front, concede possession, wait for the right moment then turn over the ball and up the length of the pitch in 7 or 8 seconds. The first and second goals were almost identical to the type that Eriksen or Dele would score fairly regularly for us.

Harsh from the BBC
Harsh but fair. That goal had an element of luck in where the ricochets landed for Saka, but there were 2 or 3 attempts at a block tackle when the ball was there to be booted unceremoniously. Carragher, Terry, Vidic would have landed the ball 50 yards away and probably wiped out the attacker too.

An embarrassing shambolic display yesterday. From the announcement of the line ups to walking in 0-3 down was a litany of mistakes and pratfalls.

A midfield 3 of PEH, Belly and Dele!! FFS - porous. Arsenal didn’t need a 2nd invitation to waltz through at will.

A back four that had got lucky in the first couple of games reconstituted with disastrous effect. Our £50m CB left sitting on the bench.

Manager looked like he was a rabbit in the headlights. Looked like he froze and didn’t know how to react.

Dele must surely be finished at Spurs now. Ditto N’Dombele. The Tanganga RB experiment has failed. Skipp showed that he must start. I think you are correct Zapp - 3 at the back on its way. I think NES will/must revert to what he knows…

Bigger questions over Levy, ENIC, Paratici and yes, Nuno (a dead man walking).

I didn’t laugh at Arsenal’s early season woes and being 20th. These shit cunts at WHL can’t even allow us some Schadenfreude! 40+yrs of supporting this sodding club told me that all would revert to type eventually. The Poch years were a aberration. Levy stumbled upon a manager and a talisman (Kane) and wasted them both. Back to being humiliated by Chelsea and Arsenal. And even looking up at West Ham. Spursy

Good start to that run. For all the crisis talk, 2 points off Man City, 2 points off Man Utd, 3 points off Liverpool, 4 points off Chelsea at the top.

Things still aren't right, but if we keep plugging away and get Kane scoring again things are nowhere near as bleak as the criticism would suggest.

Home after a long day.

I really (unexpectedly) enjoyed the game today. By no means perfect and plenty to nitpick over but that was our best performance of the season so far.

Romero looks different gravy. I think it may account for a more assured display from Dier too. Romero looks fairly ‘alpha’ which allows Dier to sit deeper and sweep. Royal looked better today too.

Skipp continues to grow - bit sloppy but showed discipline after a 1st half booking. Kane & Moura grafted (expected from the latter, pleasing at last from the former. Son was fantastic - chasing back, making runs, silky skills and a potent, almost unplayable (when he steps and goes in the box) force when on the ball in dangerous areas.

Not sure what we are gonna do with the enigma that is N’Dombele?!?! Looked knackered after 10mins. Glaring miss aside, GLC looked a better #10 prospect..

Empty seats a concern but hopefully a wake up call for Levy/ENIC.

COYS - & relax. International break coming up, what could possibly go wrong?
