We're back for another night of live music at the Cavendish Arms in Stockwell. I'm really pleased with the bill for this one - three fantastic bands for a fiver!
The Understudies + Alex Chilltown + Alien Jane
Thursday September 26th
The Cavendish Arms, 128 Hartington Rd, Stockwell, London SW8 2HJ, 8pm. £5. Five minutes walk from Stockwell tube, map of the venue here. Advance tickets here The Understudies + Alex Chilltown + Alien Jane at The Cavendish Arms
The Understudies
Five years after the release of their debut album 'Let Desire Guide Your Hand', London quintet The Understudies return with their second album 'If Destroyed True'. With a move to predominantly piano-based songwriting there is a greater sense of atmosphere and sophistication in both their instrumentation and arrangements allowing them to explore new themes, both musically and lyrically, whilst also expanding on their guitar-led sensibilities. This is the first Understudies gig for 18 months, and the first time most of these songs will have been heard by anyone other than the band.
Alex Chilltown
Alex Chilltown has been creating sublime off-kilter dream pop since 2013, garnering a ton of critical acclaim in the process. Clash magazine say "imagine Spiritualized if J. Spaceman's budget was slashed down to a handful of mics and old 8-track and you'd be close: glorious fuzz, with a slight hint of soul". Gold Flake Paint say "like some neon-lit, midnight drive to nowhere", which sounds perfect.
Alien Jane
A brand new band from Brixton, Alien Jane are so new they don't have any kind of social media links or any way for you to hear their music, so you'll just have to take our word for it that the demos they sent to us were wonderful - sumptuous indie pop that's part perfect jangle, part joyous noise. For fans of Lloyd Cole, The Clientele, Comet Gain, The Cavalcade and more. We're very excited to see them live - they could very well be your new favourite band!
8pm - Doors
8.30pm-9pm - Alien Jane
9.20pm-9.50pm - Alex Chilltown
10.10pm - The Understudies
