The Urban 6 Nations 2018 Thread

apart from the bench Eddie has brought a level of intensityand decision making that wasn't there before. they are also fitter than they were,so it's a bit more rounded than big fellas and fresh legs.

Would you like us to stop the game after an hour? Maybe bring in some sort of deceleration thing like in Cricket?

There must be some way we can change the rules to stop the team with the better squad winning?
As a matter of fact there is: no non-injury subs. Job's a goodun ;)

(I was quite pissed at 10:51 last night so may have been a little, erm, binary, btw. EJ is a bit of a wanker and a very good coach and England are a very, very decent side albeit one with an exceptionally strong bench. Hoped that should lower the hackles somewhat:p)

I'm not opposed in principle it's just totally unenforceable. A twinge here, a knock there - need to be taken off as a precaution etc etc.

They have cottoned onto it as it's utterly bloody obvious. They haven't been able to do it themselves because they don't have a bench like England's. Nobody does.

E2A: so it isn't genius, it's just a fairly smart use of existing resource.
Genius, smart - it's all a load of semantics.

Bendeus lad. Super Saturday. Where do you want to go? You'll get good seats and great atmosphere early doors at The Joiners in Bishopston mate. Bit middle class mate but free food. Good ales. Or do you have an alternative idea for our ditch session

Oh shit, I've just realised that super Saturday is on the 17th March. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective) I'll be flying to Antigua that day. Could we do one of the earlier ones?

2 home games & 3 aways. Grand Slam or Wooden Spoon!

I reckon we'll beat France, Wales & Italy but lose to England & Ireland.

Lol. I wasn't going to drive back! I was thinking of just curling up next to GD in his ditch
I know some pretty sound ditches too. Push comes to shove.

Play it by ear dude. If wind is blowing in right direction we could head to town and closer to train station. You get yourself to Swansea and I'll collect you.

So which one? Wales v England or other date?

Rory Scannell (Dolphin/Munster) 3 caps
Jacob Stockdale (Belfast Harlequins/Ulster) 4 caps

Disappointing to see both Rob Kearney and Fergus McFadden Includes especially at the expense of Tiernan O'Halloran who could cover both wing and fullback. Relief not to see Healip even though he's injured part of me thought JS will include him. Still a very good squad, and with Quinn Roux a pushing TH lock...

Biggar to miss the first 3 matches of the 6N, adding to our tally of 4 injured Lions going into the competition. This brings a whole load of head scratching to selection and not a small amount of opportunity. I'd go:

Evans, Owens, Lee
AWJ, Seb Davies
Shingler, Moriarty/Navidi, Tipuric

Liam, North, Williams S, Parkes, Patchell, Davies G, Halfpenny

Loads of Turks in the pack and backline. Thinking that without Biggar we're ever more reliant on Scarlet gameplan and therefore staff to execute. Very, very mobile and good handling up front, ditto behind (though I may be tempted to play anscombe at 10 and Patchell as a distributing fullback. Anyways, 1/2p only in there as an accurate boot and solid last line of defence as, sadly, he's nowt going forward these days. Davies edges Webb due to relative form and the Turk connection. Tips would fit beautifully into Scarlet gameplan so he edges Cubby. Would be interested to see how Adams goes on the wing.

And that's how Eddie wins matches. No tactical genius, just a bloke who realises that if you bring on massive, athletic players in the last 20 you're likely to outscore your less well served opponents. The number of Eng wins that happen in the final quarter after near parity for the first three is telling.

My take as an Aussie on Eddie. I always rated him as a coach, even during his bad years with the Wallabies. We used to lose matches but at least a couple of times in a game you'd see a fantastic back line move. We lost as we had no forwards, plus the players got into a sort of gang against him. I think he coached very well to help the Wallabies punch above their weight on the world stage, considering we had such a poor pool of players to select from. Not his fault that the better atheletes back home tend to pich League or Rules over Union, as both of them carried better kudos and pay back home.

He proved his coaching by helping Jake White and the Boks win the world cup. The joke introduction of . . .
Eddie: Who are those players?
Jake: They're called forwards. Oh but who are those?
Eddie: They're called backs.

And again with Japan, that famous victory against the Boks.

It is no suprise with England he has done well. England does have a good pool of players to select from, and with his coaching abilities and man management he has turned them into a real world force.

My 2c worth

Webb now out of the 6N and Liam highly unlikely. I've just received a call from Gatland based on my stellar achievements as a sub for Llantwit Comp's second XV in 1990 and have been up in the loft looking for my boots. Wish me luck, Urbz.

First receiver at 12 playing Warrenball? Good luck sir!

Wales are fucked really, injury after injury to key men. Has Webb played his last game in the red jersey given the eligibility change?

England have been decimated as well, I think we're down to 7th or 8th picks at loosehead, both number 8's borked, no flankers with any caps fit, wingers queuing up for the treatment table. Its been a terrible season for injuries, if Ireland can keep their players fit the grand slam is theirs for the taking.
