The Rum Kitchen, Coldharbour Lane - isn't that public land?

Hmm... so I may be way of mark here so do please correct me if... but:

isn't the space outside The Rum Kitchen

Rum Kitchen | Brixton

at 437 Coldharbour Lane, where they have a spot of decking and some nice plants, public land?

There were a couple of bike racks there for years - a testament to the presence of the old, old Brixton Cycles shop - but now what looks like the (ahem) Public Highway is being passed off as private property. And what happened to the publicly financed cycle racks in the fervour of tarting up?

And whilst we're on the co-option of public space to the interests of some bunch of .XCL merchants, isn't the space The Ritzy choose to close off for drinking and eating similarly public space?

Festive stuff huh...

Not sure if it's public land but that fucking massive pile of rubbish bags they sling on the pavement everyday sure pisses me off. I've seen people in wheelchairs struggling to get past.

From the planning drawings their site extends approximately 2m beyond the front of the Rum building. They appear to have sought permission to relocate the cycle stands which were on that land.

Ritzy has / had an agreement with Lambeth to hire space in the square.

Tks for Ritzy info Rushy.

Do excuse my ignorance but I'm puzzled by Rumlands planning application. Does that means they bought the land or could they have sequestered it in a cheeky bit of planning gain?

Probably worth mentioning about the rubbish bags. I think someone here spoke to a pub about not filling metal bins with glass bottles after a certain time. A compromise was reached.

This is totally unnecessary (on a national level). In Ghana or Nigeria the bars have to send the bottles back to the brewery for re-use. It's only 'cause we are such an advanced society we get this sort of issue.

Dunno mate. I'd guess it is most probably part of the original title. You could check on the land registry. I think planning would probably have picked it up on the site plan. The Rum guys are just tenants rather than freeholders anyway.

The Germans re-use their beer (and i beleive most glass) bottles.

I recall paying more in crate and bottle deposits than i have for the physical beer.

I remember asking the rather posh lady in newsagent at the airport in Friedrichshafen, southern Germany why they charged a deposit on CANS of beer.

"Zat is because vee Germans are superior" she said.

I'm sure it was a joke - this was 10 years ago before Brexit was even thought of.
