anyone into these guys? saw them at Glastonbury on a recommendation from a friend and just got all their albums.

really amazing. twin cinema is a great album and they have a new one just out which is also very good. great songs and lovely harmonies

very good indeed.

but don't go on about them, they're one of indie rock's best kept secrets ;)

Who does Neko Case's parts when they play live. I assume she can't always gig with them?

I've seen them a fair few times and she's never come over to the UK with them :( Tis always A.C. Newman's neice who does her parts on tour (and her band The Immaculate Machine have been known to support them).

The first three albums are works of indie-power-pop genius. Haven't heard the new one yet but I'd heard it's not as good as the others ...

Yeah. Immaculate Machine are worth a listen too.

I just got the latest one, Challengers (along with the first three which I only had downloaded before) - it's taking me a while to get into it, but I think it's a grower, is excellent.

There was talk on the TNP forum that Neko Case was touring with them this year, but I think it's probably unlikely she'll come over for the European leg, so it'll be Kathryn Calder singing her parts. Would be great if Immaculate Machine are supporting as well, though.

Anyone else going to see them on Oct 4th at KOKOs?

Am tempted by it but saw them at Islington Bar Academy and Glasto earlier this year so think I might conserve the pennies. Of course, if I end up loving the new album that may change ... :D

Also, they're never quite as good live as on record. I forgive them though as I love the songs soooo much. :)

had that problem with them at Glastonbury, the records are so, well, shiny and clean sounding it's never going to be quite right live and I felt a bit let down by it. then they said, "we've got time for just one more, we'll do The Bleeding Heart Show" and my heart sank as it was always one of my least favourite of their songs but somehow, live, it was just lovely. funny how things go eh?
a great, great band

Glasto is probably the worst time I've seen them - that stage just wasn't kind to them and only served to emphasise their lack of live stage presence :(

that was when i first heard them, my friend took me and i remember thinking the last song was amazing. i then got twin cinema and heard the album version, its an incredible song. weird how its one of your least favourites

I wondered if there would be a thread here. I fucking love this band. I saw them at In Nottingham when they toured Twin Cinema. Only about 20 of us in the crowd the band looked really pissed off. Well you would be if you came from Canada to tour an no fucker turned up. Felt sorry for them that night.

I really dig Twin Cinema, Brill Brusiers and Whiteout Conditions.

Anybody heard the latest album? I've find it too low key and uninspiring I suspect the loss of Dan Bajar has hampered their creativity. Quite dissapointed but still love them.

For the uninitiated they are essentially a retro indie/pop band but with a quiky edge. So many hooks you will hang yourself. Some recommend viewing listening below.

I love Catherine's vocals on Play Money.

Bumping because this band deserves to be heard more. Their latest album (which IMO) isnt that great was included in The Independant's top 30 albums of 2023 and Rolling Stone has included their debut album in the top albums of the 21sr Century so far.

Give the first few tracks plus Sing me Spanish Techno from Twin Cinema a listen.
