Divisive Cotton

Now I just have my toy soldiers
Fronted by singer / songwriter and ace blues guitar player Tony 'TS' McPhee the Groundhogs are one of Britain's greatest ever bands and, sadly, the most neglected...

Tony McPhee I salute you sir!!

Their best albums are

Blues Obituary (September 1969)
Thank Christ For The Bomb (May 1970)
Split (March 1971)
Who Will Save the World? The Mighty Groundhogs (March 1972)
Hogwash (November 1972)
Solid (June 1974)

I only know Split & Thank Christ For The Bomb. They are both very good. Band were still great when I saw them ten years ago as well

Have all of the above (all on CD now, originally on vinyl or cassette), plus a couple of c90s full of radio sessions that are lurking around somewhere.

I remember when I first heard The Hunt (from The Two Sides of Tony McPhee) and being reminded of A Pagan Day by Psychic TV (with a mix of Hawkwind, Sonic Boom's (Spacemen 3) Forever Alien album & The Clangers thrown in), I was surprised it was from '73.
There's a bit of a connection there as well as Spacemen 3/Sonic Boom used to play with PTV during the mid-late 80's and David Tibet who used to be in the first incarnation of PTV covered The Groundhogs' Sad Go Round back in the early 90's with his band Current 93. And Tony has now started playing live with C93.

BTW, it was Nick Saloman of The Bevis Frond (another overlooked British guitarist/songwriter) who played guitar on the C93 cover of Sad Go Round.

Ha! a few of us about. I remember boppin about to Cherry Red when it first came out. I'm sure I saw the Groundhogs play at Essex uni at the time.

Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don't forget your booties 'cause it's cooooold out there today.
