If you haven't lived there for a certain amount of time, sure, I don't think you should have the right to vote there. But - just because you live outside your country of citizenship, does that mean you surrender your citizenship and your rights as a citizen?
Yes. Why?
Not Anglo and even if I were, so what?krtek a houby is going to exorcise you with bell, book and candle. "Get thee behind me, Anglo", he will say.
Because you're Irish and I'm not? What a strange perspective. We do things differently, you and I.
If you haven't lived there for a certain amount of time, sure, I don't think you should have the right to be able to vote there.
Not Anglo and even if I were, so what?

That's the joke. Not Anglo and even if I were, so what?

Hang on, you don't actually mean that citizenship is surrendered due to extended residence outside the state? If you haven't lived there for a certain amount of time, sure, I don't think you should have the right to vote there.
Time to get over it.Luckily, the days of the British dictating what we should or shouldn't do are long gone.
Not really sure how that's relevant but yes, of course. I also have an Irish name and Irish heritage. Diaspora and all that.Have you been there?
You mean you're. . . Scotch? Not Anglo and even if I were, so what?
Time to get over it.

Is not being able to vote somewhere surrendering your citizenship?Hang on, you don't actually mean that citizenship is surrendered due to extended residence outside the state?
I want to hear about the leprechauns!You mean you're. . . Scotch?
What's Nicola Sturgeon really like? And have you seen the Loch Ness monster?
Well no, not good for me. You asked a question, I answered, it's what it is. I just find it weird you're all so invested in voting, never mind voting in a country you don't live in and may not have lived in for years.Good for you. But you aren't a citizen. This is the heart of the matter - Irish citizens don't lose their citizenship living abroad and we should have the right to have some say in our country's direction.
It's not a question of getting over it.
That would probably wipe out the recent election/referendum results in Romania, Georgia and MoldovaBut it would be ridiculous if there were more people outside Ireland voting in Irish elections than people actually living there. (Obviously dependent on where lines were drawn but that isn't that ridiculous given the numbers.)
And just because you're from a country originally, doesn't mean you should necessarily get a say in how it's run.

Anyway, going to leave you all to it as I've stuff to do.
