Go into the disused tunnels at Charing Cross tube station

There are also some flooded tunnels on the Northern Line , trains initially terminated there before the line was extended first to Kennington and then Morden in the early 1920's - a sub Thames loop for the triains to run round before going back northbound. Wisely blocked off as a stray WW2 bomb penetrated them and flooded them.

Sounds quite fascinating - wish I was close enough to do such visits.

However, back when the Tyne & Wear Metro was being built, I was fortunate enough to be able to join a conducted tour, walking from Gateshead across the Tyne and up to Haymarket. The stairs at the end were very punishing on the legs - after walking that far already ... In retrospect, I wish I had chosen to be on the tour going the other way.

Is that Charing Cross now Embankment and Strand now Charing Cross?

"Strand" was de-named in 1974 and was incorporated into "Charing Cross" when the new interchange with the new Jubilee Line opened in 1979. I think the other change was then the de-naming of "Trafalgar Square" for the same reason.

I only noticed last night that Warren St used to be Euston Road and that name can still be seen written in the tiles on the Northern Line platforms

yes, trafalgar square (bakerloo) and strand (northern) became part of charing cross (bakerloo, northern and jubilee) in 1979 - which is why it's a bloody long walk if you change from bakerloo to northern there not at embankment; and charing cross (district / circle, northern and bakerloo) became embankment.

Always a joy - including also "Gillespie Road" for Arsenal , and I think "Great Central" at Marylebone (must check the latter)

yes, marylebone still has 'great central' in the tiling.

aldwych (piccadilly line) was also called 'strand' when it opened (more here)
